I took the written test before doing my background check.

Maybe it changed. DMV told me I had to take the background first

This is the pamphlet they gave me at my local DMV. It's probably outdated.

You can do it either way now, take the test before or after clearance.

I got my letter from TSA yesterday. They determined I'm eligible to hold a HazMat endorsement.

I passed the written test at the DMV before I did the background check.

Is there anything else I have to do now or do I just wait for the DMV to send me my new license in the mail?

My husband who has had his CA class A for 35 years + just went this week and took 5 test to add endorsements. He then went today and passed Hazmat and passed. The thing is they told him since he now has Hazmat he has to do a behind the wheel big rig test so they gave him a learners permit. Does anyone know why this is? Again he's had his Class A for years with no tix or accidents. Is there any exception to avoid having to take the behind the wheel test? And why would adding Hazmat endorsement trigger taking an estabished Class A to back to a learners permit?

That doesn't make any sense at all. Adding a HazMat endorsement does not require a driving test.

Actually that is right you can add a endorsement within the first year of renewing your class A without having to retake the other endorsements over, the date is on the bottom right corner of your license that basically lets you know that that's within the time frame that you can add a endorsement without having to do them all again.
