One that tested positive for coke and said he told me he had been in a wreck and the hospital gave it to him.
One that ran from upstate NY to WA via LA so he could check his mail.
And on and on.....

Yesterday we were going through old files from years ago and pulled one out that just had a guys first name only. (Only had like 4 trucks at the time) My guy showed it to us all in the office and we all bust out laughing.
There are a good handful of nightmare drivers we reference from time to time that we’ve learned from over the years.
This particular “gentleman” well say went off the grid and wouldn’t answer his phone or texts. I can see on gps he’s sitting in a parking lot about 30 mins from the office. So, I load up and head there and find my truck running, both doors open, him sitting on the edge of the mattress, and his ol lady beating the #### out of him. I told her to get the #### out and I climb up into the truck and it’s absolutely full of trash and bull #### and he’s sitting there crying, face bloody, and wacked out of his mind. Rocking back and forth uncontrollably. Eventually we got him and the truck back to the yard and I told him to clean the truck out and take a couple weeks off. Never heard from him again. What an embarrassing sight to see that was. What’s funny is he was a “hard” biker dude and his ol lady stomped his ###. LOL
So anyway, I have plenty of others but there are certain past drivers where we use them as an example. “Oh he’s not pulling a Tim is he? Hope he doesn’t do a Johnny”. (Names changed)Mattflat362, Coffey, Oscar the KW and 4 others Thank this. -
Thank you, thank you, thank you.
I was feeling the itch to get back in, but you dredged up curing memories. -
Back in the 80's had a driver quit and leave the truck in WI. (was based in OR then) Rode back with another driver got the truck and loaded back to OR. Went to sleep in MT and woke up with my feet freezing. Had about 6" of snow over them. He had drilled holes through the sleeper in a brand new 359 to put a cabinet in. Confronted him about it and he didn't think it was a big deal at all.
One that would only drive a pete and called one night because the blinkers didn't work. Swore he had checked everything. Asked it had popped the breaker, he asked where they were. Two rows of white buttons on the dash and the "only drive a pete" didn't know what they were.Coffey, slow.rider and SL3406 Thank this. -

Ive seen the aftermath and its not pretty.
Knew one gal who beat her husband unconscious then grabbed a bat and really went to town on him.
He said if he knew the bat was coming he would have fought back.Coffey, slow.rider and Midwest Trucker Thank this. -
To put it this way if me and my dad didn't work so well as team he'd only have 1 truck. The post about the 2nd driver not being a load finder, dispatcher is spot on. If you do all your maintenance it's 2x the work. Almost to where you need a good trusted mechanic on your team.
Before we add a 3rd truck and driver we're 1st going to get a spare daycab just in case the worst happens like it did to us a few months ago with a truck going down under a load a needing a head.
When we do get a truck for a driver will also need to hire an office person and at least a part time mechanic paid above industry avg if he's worth his weightCoffey and slow.rider Thank this.
