Rookies and lurkers, pay attention to this point:
Everyone is going to screw up, especially when new. When questioned, OWN IT. Ownership allows you to make changes. It’s not necessarily the screw up that’s concerning, but the acceptance of responsibility. No sane person wants an irresponsible person driving an 80000 lb vehicle. When you hear of someone getting fired for something seemingly insignificant this is usually the case.Gearjammin' Penguin, wis bang, 4wayflashers and 1 other person Thank this. -
Moosetek13 and TripleSix Thank this.

Some of the places we get to go.kemosabi49, Phoenix Heavy Haul, Concorde and 4 others Thank this. -
You’re in the Dallas area. Why don’t you just go drive around between Dallas/Ft. Worth. All kinds of cold storage and DC’s there. Many signs for local drivers etc. I imagine the locals are distribution during the day.
.
Oh…and I almost forgot…Do Not accept a driving job with BillyBob’s Alligator Eatery…trust me.. -
A lot of Werner drivers are not aware if you get stuck, even on ice, they consider that a preventable accident. I could go on about how unfair that is especially when they are asking new drivers to make deliveries that will bring you into icy, barely cleared, back lots and alleys all winter long. Best to carry some gravel and a steel shovel or whatever. That’s their policy tho so you need to accept that and use it as a lesson and think how you could have done it differently. You are the captain and have final say over when and where that truck goes.
I think you could return to Werner if you play your cards right. I started at Werner and remember seeing a young lady cleaning out her truck one evening while I was taking a 34 at the Lithia Springs yard. She had 3 minor incidents and was let go. It was after 5PM and I convinced her to not leave until she went back in the next day and spoke to safety about how she could get safety training or go back with a trainer for a few weeks or whatever. She was all smiles the next day. She kept her job but had to complete Smith training. Smith training takes about 2 hours with a trainer at the yard. Easy peazy.
Point is Im sure you did actually learn a lesson in each of these incidents. It sounds like you didnt let safety know that you learned a lesson, for whatever reason.
Do it soon because after 30 days you’ll be considered a new employee again and have to go through orientation and road test and everything all over again.
It’s preferable to be at one employer for a year or so, before moving on. -
If you absolutely can't or won't go back to a blue truck, one thing you could do is to go to all the truck stops close to you, or the ones you can afford the gas to get to (I know how big DFW area is, believe me) hit the truck stops, there should be a cork board or notice board where people leave messages and look for some owner operators that are looking for drivers. If you don't see any you could leave your info on those boards stating you are looking for an owner of that would give you a chance. You never know. And I feel for you, I started with Werner and they got me the same way on a backing accident, you're ALWAYS at fault when backing up and hit something, even if you got four people watching one on each corner of your truck telling you it's ok, come on. That's exactly what happened to me with hardly any damage done to the truck. You really have to cover your but when working for a big company, because everything and anything you do, they live to record it and they build a file up on you so they can use it against you. And when talking on the phone to safety, dispatch or ANYONE in The company you work for, I would advise you to absolutely RECORD the phone call. That could really help you out some day!! Good luck to you, wish you the best.
