I think so too. He seems to be different, somehow.Western flyer and icsheeple Thank this.

You can't fault a guy for trying to do something to better his life. Before all this who say 'nay' get wound up, think of how many of us WANTED to drive in the first place. How many wanted to run their own show? It's fairly obvious to anyone with two eyes that it's entirely possible to succeed. Do you think Johnny Hunt started out with 3000 trucks, or did he build his operation up from 1 or 2? How about Chester England? Kevin Knight? Or even the mighty Jerry Moyes? People even have different ways of defining their own success, so if he wants to do a lease I say good for him. Hope it works
sanchez51476, scottied67, CasanovaCruiser and 2 others Thank this. -
Those men had business skills, and if you laid a lease contract so one sided in front of Hunt, England, Knight, or Moyes they'd laugh right in your face.rachi, Western flyer, blairandgretchen and 1 other person Thank this.

That really isn't the point. What I'm saying is they saw an opportunity and had the determination to make it work. Granted, sometimes realities of life will overcome that determination, but don't automatically assume that a lease operator is an idiot for trying.sanchez51476 and BigGee Thank this.

Woah! I didn't call anyone an idiot, well not in this thread. ....
Seems like most lease ops really just don't understand what they are getting into. Ignorant maybe. Despite a simple TTR search would quickly enlighten those that are wanting to educate themselves.
Ugh! How did I get sucked into another lease op thread.rachi and blairandgretchen Thank this. -
Okay, instead of squawking about who said what, let's do this. Obviously, the big outfits have to build some profit for themselves into the lease. I've looked into some from time to time myself, but concluded that they are mostly one-sided. I prefer to have a greater degree of control than they were willing to give up. Just my preference. As far as advising somebody to read the threads here for valid information, you might as well call Jimmy Hoffa and ask him. There is so much ridiculousness to sift thru I doubt that a short-timer will gain much from it. Us oldtimerz tend to be somewhat jaded, cynical, and eccentric, myself included.

Don't do it dude... just don't.
But if you just have to cross that line ask yourself a couple of questions and see if you know the answers.
Just some examples...
Whats the fuel cost per mile to operate your company truck for the last 3 months?
Can you suffer a $200 settlement to gouge up on cheap fuel to set up a really good settlement for the next week?
Does your family know how to budget so they arent suffering when you get that -$300 settlement after 4 days hometime followed by an immediate 4 day breakdown?
In short, have you really thought this through?Western flyer and RERM Thank this. -
You didn't get sucked in,you jumped with both feet yelling GERONIMO! LOLblairandgretchen, Bakerman, scottlav46 and 1 other person Thank this.

If I weren't so worn out from driving this stupid truck, I'd do some research on what made me want to open my big stupid typing digits . . .icsheeple Thanks this.
