Thanks for some good laughs guys. Just to keep the neigh sayers at bay I am not saying I am doing this. I am just trying to educate myself on some of what is involved in a L/O and go from there. As for my wife, she has a good job and makes good money so if things were not going well with my business it would not be a critical blow to us that would cause problems with our personal life.
I am being very smart about this and making sure I am well educated and prepared. Yes I can tell you what the cost of fuel per mile for my truck is and I can even give you an estimate of how much fuel I have used in the last three months. Here it is for you.
7.5 MPG average
2.29 Per gallon at Pilot in Central Point OR today
That means my cost per mile is .305 cents per mile.
I average 9000 MPM so that means I have used $8244 in fuel if I used today's fuel cost.
Before you ask, yes I could take the time to review my mileage logs for the last three months but i'm at home enjoying some home time.
For all those people who think I should already know the answers to my questions I say this, I am not a no it all and I am trying to get other peoples opinions on the matter. No one figures out everything on their own, they get help from other people. That is what these forum's are for.... to help people not criticize them.

Um what do you think i'm doing. This is part of my "homework" and for me the next step would be either L/O or local driver. I am looking into both. -
Thank you for the vote of confidence....... -
I have a inkling of what I am up against and am taking the time to educate myself before I make a decision. I am thinking at least 6 - 12 months ahead. That will give me time to get the info I need and establish a good business plan if I even decide to go that route. Remember one thing, just because it didn't work for you don't mean it wont work for me. I may be a little more savvy then you were then or maybe not who knows.

You're chances of making it leasing a truck increase if you team with someone or if you could land a dedicated account. But if going otr solo you will have a difficult time making money.
-
Yeah it sucks ... I'm OTR solo and only clearing $51K to $53K after taxes and spending just 12 weeks a year at home.RERM Thanks this.
-
That's about 20k more then i make as a company driver and I only get about 8 weeks a year home.

Price oil and filters, and intervals - calculate. Will you do this yourself? Grease truck yourself?
Tires - 2 steer, 8 drive, 8 trailer - price and research longevity - calculate.
Insurances - escrows, base plates, calculate, in CPM -
How many projected miles annually - take into account winter and slumps, and time off.
Whats the revenue per mile? Costs per mile? Set aside for taxes? Truck replacement? -
Ok, if you say so, But the other 99% of otr lease operators have no such luck.
