Luck has very little to do with it ... It has to do with business skills. Everyone I've met, who is in a lease and have a solid understanding of all facets of running a business, are successful.

On the other hand, those that I have met who are failing, either have a complete lack of understanding or don't grasp all the aspects of what is necessary. Unfortunately, that is the vast majority of people that I run into, that are leasing.

Well it's time to get back to the grind. Enjoyed some home time and feel rejuvinated.

You bring up a good point. I have met a few people that were leasing and doing it sucssefully for swift at that. In my opinion it was because they were trainers and had the extra milage from the student because they were laking in the business savvy department.

You got to have some type of grasp on how to take care of a business. Its not all about how can I make the most money from what im doing. Its more about how can I make enough money to sustain my business and meet the goals I have set for it. You have to set reasonable and obtainable goals. One thing I have learned over the last few months is it's not about how you can get the most miles each week. Its how can I make enough money of the amount of miles I would like to driver each week. Learn how many mile a week you are comfortable driving each week and find a company that you can make enough to support your business and achieve with those miles.

Just because you have the ability to driver more miles when you are a team dosent mean you will make a lot more money doing it. All your doing is wearing you truck out faster and increasing your out of pocket for your business exspences.

it's not impossible to make leasing a truck work, plenty of people do it profitably. You guys make it sound like signing that paperwork will be the end of your life.
Is it worth it to make an extra 5-10 grand a year if everything goes 100% perfectly? No, but some will try and that's their choice.
Perhaps his long term goal is to own a micro-fleet. You cant say leasing isn't a fairly low risk way to get your feet wet.

Get a load back home for time off:
Deliver the load and get empty:
Drive back to yard and clean out truck:
Walk in office and turn keys and permit book in:
    Go get a real job:

If they even bother to ask why your leaving and
You tell them you're not making enough money
To justify being away from home, don't let them bribe
You with one or two good weeks of running hard.

It will only go back to the way it was before in
    A short amount of time.
And no don't say a word to anyone in the office
Until your at the terminal turning everything in.

For me its not about the money, its about how im treated. I am treated well at this company and get good miles. I have made enough to pay off a lot of medical bills and some household bills and still have some play money. I am happy with that. When the time is right I will move on.

i think those guys got where they are with absolute pure hard work. Plus it didn't hurt that during their time starting out, the rules could be bent way past broken such that one driver was basically earning two drivers' income. The way it is now, you go 15 minutes over they want to put you in a gas chamber strapped into an burning electric chair hanging by a rope around your neck in front of a firing squad.

You can get treated well and get paid well.
But if your happy with 30 grand a year to live
On the road than more power to you.
You can find something at home and make that,
Unless your like a few drivers I know who can't
Handle being around thier wives that long.

I just saw a shirt at a truck stop in Minnisota that said " I keep truckin so I don't have to hear my wife's kluckin" and now you say that lol how funny is that. I enjoy being around my wife though.

    Update

I have been looking at a couple companies that do Interstate 5 runs and I found a small outfit called RLT trucking. They have a leasing program where you are paid milage rate and an o/o where your paid a percentage. I have reviewed their contracts and will keep them in mind. I am also going to call Gorden trucking when I get a chance. There are a few local opportunities I am looking into also.
