Hence why I have no temptation to work there!
Lots of different flavors and variety of drivers and what kind of set up works for them. But, the solo OTR life is my baliwick and I think I'd be fairly miserable doing something different. IDK, I'm just enjoying the adventure. Not knowing where my next load is gonna take me (I do usually stay on the West Coast) and little routine makes it enjoyable to me. I had way too much routine for way too long before I started driving. As odd as it may sound, having to look at my phone to figure out what day of the week it is and that for the most part, it really doesn't matter anyway. And, waking up and forgetting what State I'm even in. Is part of the adventure that puts a smile on my face. To each their own and someday some of this may get tired. I'll deal with it then, but for now, it's part of the fun for me. Having the same truck that I can call home gives me an emotionally secure spot that helps keep me grounded so I have enough familiar and comfortable to go with the chaotic and unexpected.

Immigration to the US as a Truck Driver
According to the American Trucking Associations, “To move 9.2 billion tons of freight annually requires nearly 3 million heavy-duty Class 8 trucks and over 3 million truck drivers.” America needs truck drivers. If you are a foreign worker hoping to work as a truck driver in the US, you may be served best by applying for an H-2B Visa. According to drivers.com, this is the best visa option for truck drivers.

    BENEFITS OF THE
    H-2B PROGRAM

    • Unlimited labor pool – Overcome your constant driver shortages and access a constant stream of available workers.
    • Highly qualified drivers – Staff your trucks with the top drivers in the profession.
    • Company loyalty – H-2B visa holders that you sponsor are dependent upon the company’s employment. H-2B workers cannot work for another employer while in the United States.
    • High retention rates – Workers are eager to return year after year because of the tremendous opportunity that working with your company provides. This affords you the ability to reduce recruiting costs and increase profitability.

Thank you. I’ve spoke about this on and off for the entire time I’ve been on TTR but most either get mad or don’t take it serious. Truck drivers should make 100k+ per year but if you continually import cheap labor then that’ll never happen.

Or as an owner operator it’ll help keep rates suppressed.

I wonder if Amazon will buy trucks with the potty hole already cut in the floor?

I hear you I started in this industry at the age of 22 and was on the road for the first 3yrs. It was some of the best memories I have as a driver and I got to see the entire u.s. except Maine. Then of course life happened and now I have kids and a wife so I'm strictly local with a layover here and there. I was just saying the kind of business model Amazon will run will mirror that of the freight haulers who already support it.

Amazon is all contractors, they are completely isolated from liability. You can look it up, many lawyers are not happy that they can’t get in Amazon’s deep pockets.
Their concern about capacity is more of a concern about cost.
Capacity problems can be solved with money, offer enough and they will get all the trucks they need.

Does the same hold true for FedEx ground, since they are all contractors? Lawyers have to go after the trucking outfit versus them directly?

    Vampire and 650cat425 Thank this.

a few years ago FedEx ground had all their contractors get and run under their own authority, so now all the accidents go on each contractor, not FedEx, had to keep their safer scores up.
