I thought I would run a thread telling you guys about my time at AMX since I just completed Orientation Day 1. (Mods, sorry if this is published in the wrong area. Please move if necessary)

My final day with Wiley Sanders was Thursday, May 27th. My dispatcher had me doing all short day cab type runs and so we agreed to leave a day earlier than planned. I woke up from a nap on Thursday to a voicemail from some guy up at Wiley wanting to know what he had to do to get me back. Since he referred to me as a "mister" and I'm obviously a lady I deigned to reply.

Orientation at AMX is great so far. A small class of 3 drivers all with 10+ years experience each, so AMX is getting a good crew with us. Staff is wonderfully laid back, friendly, professional, and they appear to have an open door policy. My fellow orientation drivers are nice and laid back too in comparison to the class I was in at Wiley.

I was shocked, absolutely SHOCKED, to find you can walk into the dispatch area and be surrounded by actual dispatchers. At Wiley you are separated by a wall and a thick piece of plexiglass. You can't talk to anyone except by calling their extension on the phone provided. You can't get necessary envelopes either without getting a hold of someone unlike AMX which has everything provided for you to grab as needed.

    Like night and day.

They are much more personal and I really, really love the small town attitude of AMX. I haven't felt this happy and positive about a job switch in years.

The driver lounge at AMX is exceptionally clean unlike Wiley Sanders. The entire office was really clean which impressed me. The building was older like Wiley Sanders, but obviously well taken care of.

The lot is gravel, but I'll deal. AMX offers all fluids for drivers from diesel and Def, to oil and coolant. Wiley Sanders locked the def pump up at night and you didn't have access to containers of coolant or oil.

They maintain a leased fleet of Volvos and Freightliner Cascadias.

They ended orientation early today, but still handed us meal vouchers for the Cafe across the street.

Tomorrow is supposed to be a longer day, so I'll fill you in. So far 2 thumbs up.

Did you know who the Wiley driver was that topped the trailer up in Boston last week?

    Orientation Day 2:

We started a bit earlier to get our road tests in. They had us bobtail to a trailer and hook to it before going on down the road. When we came back, we backed in between trailers in their drop yard and then dropped it. Easy peasy. Very nice fella we rode with who also drives a day cab for them.

We did mostly all paperwork today, met some dispatchers who explained things, went over logs and so on, benefits, etc. On the way out Monica, who is leading orientation, said we will figure out our mileage tomorrow for reimbursement. Seriously. They give us free lunches including their staff and drivers who happen to be on the yard plus our mileage. My old company hated us. LOL

They have 230 trucks with I think 14 empty ones. If you need any fluids, the shop will give it to you. At Wiley, we never got anything like that. Not even a pin puller like AMX will give you upon a truck assignment. You don't need to put in a macro to turn on your fuel card either. They really trust you as a driver. I don't even need to get permission to bring my car on the yard to load the truck. Blows my mind. LOL Wiley was all about control and mostly I chalk it up to the type of people they hire.

Congrats. Sounds like a good smaller feeling company. How many trucks did Wiley have?

I had some contact with the safety department at AMX as a result of a parking lot accident which I caught on my dash cam. The guy raked into her while pulling out, then backed into her, then swung his trailer across her fender. It was a head shaker.

Good for you finding a gig you’re happy with. As far as the Wiley dude calling to get ya back, it could’ve been an honest mistake.

Pagan22 is one of those gender neutral names, ya know? Now, if your name was Lovie, or Ginger, or Mary Ann, I bet Gilligan would have addressed you correctly.

    pagan22 and Lonesome Thank this.
