@kylefitzy, is there a reason SPD doesn't have any Pete's in their fleet? A 579 Ultraloft would be more comfy and have more storage than these 680's, but yet still be a Paccar

My guess would be the tall roof. Usually flatbed companies run midroofs.

The short story is we had terrible results with a test batch of 579’s about 5 years ago. I think 3 of the 5 trucks blew the engines is the first few weeks. Leaking windshields and poor build quality that the dealership was willing to do nothing about.

We voted a year ago to go to KW and Volvo, phasing out freightliner and internationals. This was to reduce maintenance costs.

    We run about 90% condos.

Not necessarily, we run Pete 567’s and T680’s, all midroofs. We tried the W990’s but they where to heavy.

The 579’s were notorious for leaking roof caps, I had mine reinstalled when I worked at Magnum. Weight on most Paccar products are fairly similar in weight if spec’d correctly and yeah the Ultraloft is a spacious truck, but so is the Volvo 860…

My personal experience with a Pete 579 is that it was the biggest piece of garbage I had ever driven… Worse than any Freightliner I ever drove as far as mechanical issues

    48Packard Thanks this.

I only had the one 579 at Magnum, and it had to have the cam replaced like a lot of their fleet did, but compared to all the issues I had with every Freightliner I had at Shaffer, if given a choice, I would rather be castrated without anesthesia than ever drive a Freightliner ever again

I wonder if it’s the way Crete specs their trucks out too …

What I like about the 579/567 is that you need to take a brand new truck back to a competent dealer to have all the production issues worked out, after that they’re not bad….

Of course sorting everything out at production would be better….
