I have never dealt with e logs but if im reading this right the line 5 parameters are all up to the company as far as how fast and how far you can drive on them. Hypothetically speaking, If I were an O/O and the shop that I do work on my truck is 45 minutes from my house and I wanted to bring my truck and trailer there on the weekend could I drive 65 mph there on line 5 status? Also, when these become mandatory what are the guys going to do with mechanical motors? Just curious about all this stuff as I haven't had to deal with e logs.

well it is better than my other suggesting, take a hammer and hit the #### thing right about center, then again you could try this I believe they are 12 volt run a wire to your voltage doubler and hook it up to the 24 side for a second or 2.

BUT she isn't a company driver, she is a sub-contractor to an owner who is leased to the company.
IIRC she's with Panther and yes you can use line five. The driver can be or doesn't have to be an employee with the lease holder and the owner is responsible for the contract and anyone who works for him so she is an extension of that contract, not excluded for any reason otherwise that contract is not valid under Ohio state law. -
I log off and completely out all of the time for my 30-minutes and other things. I handle the acceptance of trips, VIRs, arrival and departure times, the eight hour and my ten when I need to take it in the cab. I don't mess with any of the other lines. I can count on one hand how many times I've used the other lines.

I don't know if I would get my way or not, but I'll bring my questions to the owner tomorrow and see if there is a way for me to get the off-duty driving option. If I am working, I would log it as such. Torching 14 hours over an errand bugs me. I was hoping there was something I could do with my logs that didn't involve tampering with the unit. If I'm going to get a DOT stop, that's most likely when I'm going to get burned for trying it. I'd rather not take the risk. Looks like I may need to get a bicycle.

I.hope I don't see that day. But, the way I see it is with out paper logs and people screwing up the dot has no one to screw with or else they would have done that long time ago.

Don't you have a drivers liaison or someone in safety you can call?
I think there is someone there for just drivers who can answer your questions. -
On our units you can edit your logs, forgot mine logged on over a weekend and came into -64 hours, figured out how to change those on status' to off. Also have had to when I forgot to go off for my 30. But that's changing on duty not driving to off duty, doubt it would let you change driving to off. But if so then you could definitely cheat it there

E-logs are the easiest thing to deal with. Not sure why everyone has such a problem with them. I've used Xata, Peoplenet and now Qualcomm. So simple. Can bobtail on off duty driving. It doesn't switch over to driving or on duty until you hit 25mph so I can log off for my 30 min and do my searching at the railyard, checkout at the gate and by that time I've only got a few minutes left to kill. Just enough time for a 5-10 minute catnap. Same thing at any shipper/receiver. Never, ever do I stop somewhere and take 30 min. Waste of time. Been on paper logs before and glad those days are over. An example as to why elogs are great. I once was pulling out of the toll booth on an exit to Quakertown, Pa. There was a statey waiting for trucks and walking over to them as they left the booth, asking for logs. He came up to me and asked for my log book. I pointed to the Qualcomm elog sticker on the door of my truck and he said, ok, get going. They want no part of elogs, most of the time. Just another benefit. When came back by later, he had some poor driver pulled over and was going over his log book with a fine tooth comb. I'll take elogs any day.
