Raising an old post but new question along same lines. Last drive test I took was 1994 in a crown bus pancake motor with a 10 spd. I enjoyed the ugly old bus more than the new MCI boxes. First day i clutched till I got the hang of it and then it was all floating (or speed shifting for the racers). When I went to test, the CHP took me all the way to the end then said go around one more time with the clutch or I have to fail you. I passed with a 100 minus the clutch. I did fine on the second round with only one grind.

So out here in the mid west in a new age do you have to clutch or float to pass? I am sure the school will also chime in but trying to think which to practice the most. I am a bit stale and have not driven either now for almost 15 years. Sure a really big bike but If I worry about serious stuff I will never make it. So far good advice here from both old and new.

Double clutch is how the test require it.

I took the test double clutching and passed. My guy took the test floating and passed. Chicago area.
