OverDrive you are right. "Hometown National Carrier" is a marketing plan designed for the stock holders NOT the drivers. Public companies cater to the share holders NOT the employees. Sucks, and it is something drivers should consider when looking at companies.
Any big company is bad because if you don't do favors for them they'll turn your life into a nightmare when you have a incident of god forbidd a accident. That nightmare is called a DAC Report bought to you by way of USIS Tulsa Oklahoma. This company is very one sided, It's the company word against your all ways and they are hard as heck to fight to get inaccurate stuff off. Here Is a list of really great companies to work for 1. Roadway 2. Watkins 3. US Freightways ( all divisions) 4. Yellow 5. Southeastern Freightlines ( Red & Black Day cabs) 6. UPS 7. Walmart 8. Fed Ex 9 DHL 10. Us Postal Service 11. Conway 12. Yellow 13. ABF 14. Indian River Transport 15. Crete 16. Sunflower 17. Grocery store Chains( These all nothing but there own freight) 18. Tyson 19. Averitt 20 Landstar 21. Landspan 22. Mayflower 23. Atlas 24. North American 25. Frito Lay 26. Coke A Cola 27. Pepsi 28. Local owner Owner Operators 29. Logging Companies 30 AAFES These
I worked for them for 5 years but never had an incident or accident. But....I heard some 'horror stories' of drivers (usually newer ones) that got canned. Knight is demanding of their drivers and doesnt give them much grace unless they have a good track record with them over time..
Outinc, I don't really appreciate the undertone of your post here. I don't wear the pants in this family and the assumption he doesn't want to come home is incorrect and based on YOUR experience. The fact is, he is rarely home, they are slow to pay when the mess up their own drops (his last check was short 3 detentions to be exact), and they don't believe in pre-planning efficiently. Every time he has had a pre-plan it will change a minimum of 2 times before he actually knows what is going on. Is this unique to Knight, no it's not, but if you an find a company that pays better mileage and actually has insurance that is worth a the fees you are paying then I would advise against them personally. Their own terminals go through mini-whose-is-bigger-showdowns and oftentimes if your DM is weak you lose out. In the last 3 weeks he's been stranded due to shoddy planning doing resets elsewhere and he averages 2500 miles a week without being home. If you want to dispute what I am factually stating about my OWN experience (via spouse), have at it. It seems awfully presumptuous to do so and to imply something about me wearing the pants simply because I wrote about my perspective coupled with your implication about his home-time comes off poorly. So the only things I got out of your post are: a new breed of driver, I wear the pants, I should drive, you know my own experiences better than I know them myself, and my husband doesn't actually want to come home, correct me where I am wrong here.. All of your remarks had an incredibly personal and denigrative quality to them and rather then countering my post you used conjecture about my spouse's home time among other things. Next time counter the POINTS and focus less on the poster (i.e. my gender should have NOTHING to do with the discussion), unless I am saying something grossly offensive. That would actually add some substance to the topic instead of coming off like it did. In the interest of not starting a flame war back and forth I will pretend you are not here and not respond to your posts if you do the same. C'est la vie.
OK, I am a girl and YES I do know most of the in's and out's of the company my hubby drives for. Being at home dealing with all the "stuff" we involved spouses deal with it can seem as if we are "wearing the pants" thats because of the responsibility we have to keep things running. Please remember to be polite when posting, AND that sometimes the "attitude" of the printed word can be taken much differently than was intended due to NOT being able to hear the inflection of the spoken word. We all have different ideas/opinions and we are allowed to express them BUT not in a rude of flame starting way.
if it is the last thing I do before I die I will see Knight pay for the actions they have taken and for every driver they have wronged especially that disgusting crew in Carlisle,PA. say what will alot of things begin with a single quack and an idea I mean look at swift, werner, jb, knight they were all began by 1 crooked quack with a dream. The courts will make you pay Knight
I don't blame you one bit for being angry, but the best thing to do is move on. Threatening legal action on a public forum will get you nowhere. I just look at it as "You screw me once SHAME ON YOU, you screw me TWICE shame on me." Carlisle has already gotten me. They have a huge area, probably the largest area covered by any one Knight terminal. Sucks for them because i don't mind the northeast one bit but I can't go there anymore because they waste my time and nobody get's away with that twice.
I applied to Knight refrigerated out of idaho falls idaho,, so far ive gotten the run around from the recuiter. first was he needed dates for where ive worked, so i gave him that, then he says one place says not for rehire, another said they have to review my work there before rehire, then another not for rehire, please explain these so he can make a decision, i explained them all but have not heard word one back from him, i think all they want are newbies with no experience to treat like crap, will find out if i ever hear back.
