Age has a huge bearing on your metabolism. I quit eating my 2 litres of ice cream weekly at 45 when I accused wife of shrinking my jeans. At 59 no more bringing wife’s cinnamon buns every night. My line haul lunch at night is half what it was 25 years ago.

I’ve been keto/fat adapted for years. I do what I call lazy keto. After my first 90 days I realized that I could eat off my diet once in awhile without going through the keto flu again.
I could write a post that would be about 5000 words on this subject. I’ve read 1/2 a dozen books and listened to ever podcast I could find.
I’ve been on a low carb diet since the mid 1990’s. But back then fat was bad. Low carb and low fat means I was basically starving myself. When I quite racing and going to Hawaii to surf in the winter I put on a bunch of weight. So I needed to loose some weight and the science was coming back that carbs were the real culprit to weight gain and heart disease for most people...it clicked for me.
It works for me. I have more energy and lots of chronic pain etc went away.
I’m not a doctor, nor do I play one on TV. Since we are all drivers I implore those of you looking to loose weight to explore Joe Rogans podcasts with Mark Sisson, Chris Kresser and Dr. Ronda Patrick. Devour those and you’ll learn a thing or two and loose some pounds.
Funny thing... when I’m doing keto right. I know exactly when I’m going to #### everyday. Makes driving a little more stress free. HahahahahaVIDEODROME, bzinger, Blackshack46 and 1 other person Thank this. -
The killer for me would be the pasta. Italian food is my favorite.
Like they say though if you put your mind to it, you can do it.bzinger Thanks this. -
Biggest thing to cut out of your diet is soda , beer and junk food.
I know it sounds hard but you adjust.
I still have beer, pizza, and junk food but occasionally and in limited quantities
Drink lots of water it fills you up and keeps you hydrated.
You crave a carbonated drink try the LaCroix naturally flavored waters. 0 sodium and calories.
Don’t torture yourself just try to slowly adjust your habits.
It will all come in time, bzinger, Blackshack46 and AModelCat Thank this. -
Muscle helps burn calories. Takes 2 calories to maintain 1 lb of fat vs 6 calories to maintain 1 lb of muscle.

That might mean a couple extra stops per day if you are OTR, but keeping your kidneys healthy is worth it. -
Professional bodybuilders have a trick they use. During the competition season, while they are on keto diets, they will take a large dose of carbs shortly before beginning a workout. They work out until their body has used all those carbs. The difference in how the body reacts to intensive exercise is dramatic enough that they know when they have used all the carbs they have eaten.
For most of us though, you won't hit the wall like bodybuilders do. If you do have to do long stretches of intense exercise (lots of manual lumping) then the keto diet might be a poor choice, unless you have the iron will to tightly control your carb intake and only take in carbs right before doing that lumping work.
Carbs are a drug. Your body does not need them. However, it's a really, REALLY old drug, and our bodies have evolved to the point where our bodies use them in preference to fats and proteins.
You will suffer withdrawal symptoms when you go off carbs. Intense hunger. Not any more than you have experienced before, most likely, but it's still a gnawing hunger. After you have been off carbs long enough to empty your liver of stored carbs (that's your body's energy battery for carbs) your body will change chemistry and go into Ketosis. At that point, your hunger pangs nearly go away. You still get hungry sometimes, but the sensations are much less severe, and far easier to ignore. For some people, they don't feel hungry at all, and have to remember to eat.bzinger, Kyle G. and MagnumaMoose Thank this. -
Avacado every night keeps me super regular.
I didn’t believe they were helping me so much until I skipped them for a week combined with a big spicy bowl of PHOJReding, Jazz1, otterinthewater and 1 other person Thank this. -
I eat whatever I want whenever I want and I am in great shape. Round is a shape is it not?
Lumper Humper, bzinger, Kyle G. and 3 others Thank this. -
Keto's awesome. After my accident, I spent over a year undergoing multiple surgeries and basically bedridden. Weight ballooned to the mid 400s. Water fasted for 33 days and lost an initial 45 pounds, then switched into keto. Down to about 300 now and still dropping even though I cheat and carb out pretty often. Nice thing is with keto burning fat instead of muscle, even though I've dieted off 100lbs I don't look starved, my fat man muscle is shining through instead.
