So I should be finished with cdl school next week if I test out and pass. I am all signed up to attend orientation in Gary for the flatbed fleet was wondering if anyone is attending or has attended and if they have any advice as far as how's the training the day to day life there and any pointers that will help me successfully complete my training there. Thanks a lot !! And I look forward to getting to know the roehl family :)

He posted this in the "Roehl" forum area, so it is fairly safe to assume that it is Roehl? :)

With roehl, is there a grooming standard as in facial hair? I just got out of the army where I had to shave every day and am looking forward to grow out my mountain man beard .

No, they prefer it to be neat though. I tried facial hair when o got out, years ago, couldn't take it, pretty much kept haircut too. Short hair is much easier to take care of on the road.

    Very, very true.

Typically 8 days, they will have you pulling flatbed trailers around a range next to the Gary terminal and then on local roads around there. Also some classroom time where they go over topics like trip planning, rules of the road, Roehl company policies and procedures. One and one-half days specifically on securement training, split about evenly between classroom and live training out on the flatbed trailers.

You stay in a reasonably-nice hotel about 10 minutes from the terminal and will have a roommate. They come pick you up from the hotel each morning in a minibus / van and drop you back at the hotel at the end of the day. Meals are provided; you get to choose items from the menu of a local restaurant that's near the terminal. They go get lunch for you and stop there again on the way back to the hotel at the end of the day. The food is good but by the end of the eight days you'll perhaps have grown a bit tired of the selection. :)

After orientation, you will go out on the road with a flatbed trainer for about 11-14 days, then return to a terminal where you will test out (pretrip, road test and written test). For info on the training phase and testing out, check out this thread: http://www.thetruckersreport.com/tr...ehl/204603-roehl-phase-3-life-after-rdtc.html
