What about the on guard system? I hit the cruise and I follow the speed of the vehicle in front of me. If he break the system automatic slow down to match it's speed. It leave about 300ft of space. Only problem is 4wheelers will still cut us off and the system jam the brakes

Hmm wasn't werner was the first to have eobr's? could it be they'll be first to have autonomous semi trucks?
or perhaps some other carrier such as swift will give automated trucks a whirl?
It appears they're already in use for mining. -
This is getting some coverage. I posted it in another topic some time back, would not surprised me if it happens.
It might cause a nightmare for some when things go haywire. Just think the damage two truck could do when out of control. -
Like I posted before, completely driverless trucks will be the normal in 15 years.
Sure, they'll be truck drivers to pick up at a hub and deliver nearby, but long interstate driving will be over with.
Just like in the late 30's when Hitler rounded ip
the Jews. It was easy, sure the Jews heard other Jews in nearby towns were being put on trains. Nobody fled. Because it couldn't happen to them.
its called the Normalcy effect -
Right. Driverless trucks. About the first time Mr. Driverless Truck encounters the blue screen 'o death, that'll be the last driverless truck on the road... especially if it happens to squash someone important.
D'y'all think there won't be some serious fallout from the crash on I95 in NJ? You really think the public will accept something like an autonomous truck on the same roadway as they drive on???Honch Thanks this. -
Just seems to me there are too many unknown variables for full automation on the ground... Weather + terrain, mechanical / tire failure, hair-brained animals (4 wheelers included), etc.
Full automation works well with commercial airlines because there's not much to hit up there... however, when a 'Blue Screen' occurs you get a tragedy like the Air France crash that happened a while back.
They got a cascade of computer errors, all automated / corrective systems went offline and since modern commercial pilots are trained primarily to monitor those systems (not how to full-on manually fly the craft), they went down. Rare, but something to consider...Last edited: Jun 10, 2014

True, when it comes to computers, computers can be hacked into. Yet some of the geeks seems to think they can set them up so that its impossible to be hacked.
With trucks set up like that, & computers, a hacker can do much damage. And in this day & time someone will, its just a matter of when.
