Who here likes auto and who hates it? It seems like the hate on automatics has more to do with ego than logic.
Automatic or manual?

A driver that is very good at shifting can out perform an auto.
Then there are adverse weather situations where a manual makes things easier and safer. If I'm driving on ice, I don't want to have to worry about if/when the tranny may shift on me. Yes, you can put them in manual mode, but you still don't have the feedback like you do in a stick.
Autos are great for city driving and the find 'em & grind 'em crowd.Nothereoften, stillwurkin, meechyaboy and 5 others Thank this. -
It's their choice, don't call it ego. That's insulting.Sons Hero, stillwurkin, MACK E-6 and 8 others Thank this. -
Drove an Allison 6 spd in a Mack Granite when I was 18. That trans couldn't make up it's mind on what gear to be in. Up, down, up, down. Ran the engine up to 2 grand too. That made me a little sour towards automatics and haven't driven one since. Been running tractor trailer for 6 months with an 18 speed and don't wanna drive anything else

Reason I drive truck is because I like rowing the gears with a heavy load. Automatic is boring and I would get out of trucking if I had to drive one

I am comfortable driving either an AMT or a traditional, he-man manual standard truck transmission. I've driven manual 6 speed, 8 speed, 10 speed, 15 speed and 18 speed.
I say that if your claim is that you feel you don't have control with an AMT, then you're not qualified to be calling any one a steering wheel holder.
FFS.
If you think your AMT over-revs the engine during compression braking, my question to you is simply, "why are you too busy to read the operators manual?"Last edited: Feb 21, 2020

Took me a long time to like my auto. Then I spend a couple of days in a loaner with a stick and had to relearn to like my auto afterwards.
Autos have come a long way but you still don't have quite the same control as with a clutch.
Good and bad to both.Coffey, Rideandrepair and Odin's Rabid Dog Thank this.
