You don’t have to be a truck driver to know DOT regulations and how to properly fill out log books or use ELD. The safety manager there knows regulations and if a driver asks questions on how to do something then she tells them how.
There are several drivers doing EXCELLENT with All State Express.
Sorry you had a poor experience.

L/P is never designed to help the truck driver... A mega company is NOT going to create a L/P program to help the truck driver.... If that were the case then every truck driver out here would be very successful in L/P

I’m of the opinion that a supervisor should be able to perform the same tasks as their subordinates.

Is it a necessity? No, but I feel strongly that in order to have a true grasp on what goes on in your subordinate’s work day, you should at least spend some time shadowing them for a day, week, whatever to fully get a handle on what they do and what is involved with doing their job. Sitting behind a desk doesn’t give you insight to what a driver goes through.

Same goes for the driver. They should spend a day shadowing a DM, a day shadowing a planner, etc... I think that would go a long way toward removing a lot of the suspicions that are in the workplace.

How else does one truly know the trials and tribulations of the other’s duties? Hell, if nothing else, I’d want to be well versed in their duties just so I could prevent them from trying to blow snow up my rear.

Seems like a lot of waisted revenue to take all your drivers off there job to be shadowing dispatchers, safety and who ever else and then turn around and have your dispatch and safety people and I guess shop employees to then take time off there duties to ride with the drivers.just to see what something that isn’t there job is like.I personally have never heard of any trucking companies doing that.only maybe very small ones where the owner imo doesn’t trust the employees he hired. I personally don’t think it’s really that important that a supervisor especially a higher up supervisor knows how to personally do everyone job like for example rebuilding a transmission in the shop his job is to hire people who are qualified that can do there job.

I don’t think they should have to learn how to rebuild a transmission as you say, but what’s wrong with gaining a little first hand experience of how a shop works?

I agree to a point....however that managers family is full of truck drivers so she has been around and knows the business. I have spoken to her father a fellow driver out here on the road. These guys should not jump to conclusions before knowing anything about a person.

You’re opinion could very well be a good idea, not saying it wasn’t there are some who think it is good.I personally never thought it would do much good.imo if a driver for example shadowed a dispatcher for a week after say 3 months of that I think the driver would be right back to complaining about dispatch when they weren’t getting the runs they wanted. And even a supervisor who even did drive could think you should do the job like he did illegally or legally because what it all comes down to it a supervisor main concern imo is deliver the freight. I’ve worked for guys who were Driver’s and started there own companies they were the ones who expected you to do what ever you had to do to deliver the freight legal or not
