Is it better to get classes from a community college or a private school? I heard that I should make sure it is at least 160 hours so I get the proper training. Does anyone use back up cameras? There are wireless ones that have a magnet and attach to the back of the trucks. Wouldn't that be helpful to put on the back of the truck all the time or only when backing up? Or what about for the blind side?

CDL school only teaches very basic maneuvers and stupid things like memorizing an entire pretrip. You will learn to back once you start working, and no, a camera isn’t necessary even then. Just GOAL

Are you telling me at school they're not gonna teach me how to drive a truck? Lol. Are you seriously telling me they don't even teach you how to back up?

they’ll maybe teach you enough to pass.
The way the law is now, they just want the money for school, make an attempt, keep your cash.

    Feedman and DexterSaintJock Thank this.

Pretty much. Any backing is going to be very basic. You wont graduate and automatically be an expert in backing. Most of my school and test was pretrip crap.

You won't have any problems driving a truck. Much more simple than flying a space ship to Mars.
    • There are over 1,245,571 cdl class a drivers currently employed in the United States.
    • And they can all back up.

    austinmike and blairandgretchen Thank this.

There are many videos on this site, and y-tube that would suggest otherwise.
    Or I could correct that...
All of them can back up, but not all can do it safely or well.

I'm sorry I don't understand what you wrote. What law? Keep what cash?

My cdl school was 10 days long and I passed. I was a seaman before that and rarely drove a car.
