Hello. I have accepted a new position at a large trucking company pending the background check. I just discovered that the dates at my last trucking job are off by 16 months. This was the last trucking job I had and that company was acquired about 3 years ago. The old company still has operations in Canada but I don't know if my dates of employment can really be verified anyways. Should I be concerned that the dates are wrong? Should I let HR Department know before they run the BR Check?

Do you have W-2 Form; that will show date you left.
I'd call HR and tell them you just discovered a mistake on your application and want to correct it.

Yeah I would do what Chinatown said. It's better if you find it before them. Start looking through your tax records for W2 or tax forms that show you were working for that old company at least in the year you said. To verify my employment at a company bought by a bigger company I tracked down an old office employee, and just coincidentally had some company letterhead. I got her to verify my employment with the old company using the dates I gave her. That company didn't report to DAC so I had a blackhole of 2 years otherwise. Now, I always keep my first and last paystub, and it never hurts to find company letterhead while you work somewhere.

You can also just get a tax transcript from the IRS which basically is a run down of your tax return for those years. It helps from having to dig through files and find all of the years that you worked there. You can request them clicking --- TAX TRANSCRIPT

A lot of companies will accept this in replacement of verified experience as this verifies it on your end.

    Chinatown Thanks this.
