Eventually you may find yourself in need of doing both.

The best skill set to master and be a great driver is common sense.

Find what ever it is that you dont like about driving,.. force yourself to practice it,,.. repeat it over and over for weeks,.. months even. Eventually you will master and overcome what you fear most.

Time in the seat and experience are all that separate you and a seasoned driver.

Some trucking jobs (accounts) require you to back up to 5 times a day (Wal-Mart,Kroger,Dollar General etc.). Sometimes you have to back from the street in traffic in a city like Atlanta or Chicago. You may have to 90° back because you have a wall in front of you and no space to get back under the trailer. Some jobs you get loaded, shut down (back into truck stop space) drive some more.... You may only back once a day.Make sure you get enough practice to be able to handle any assignment and study 3x. As notorious as they are, Cr England has the best backing video on the web on how to do a 45° and a straight line.

You're looking at it wrong, Hoss. You want a job and money, and I want you to be successful. The only way to be successful is to be good at what you do. If you're going to be a good trucker, you want to be able to back. Not saying that you will do it all the time, but you can do it and do it well. You don't jump into flatbedding because you want to avoid backing, you jump into flatbedding because chains and straps excite you.

Backing up is a "Learned art", you just have to do it to learn how to, if that's your weak point don't shy away from it, YOU WILL HAVE TO DO IT. get good at it.
If your just starting out, don't be to proud to ask for help, any one, any where, there's alot of us,still, that will get out and spot for you.
As far as a driving job that doesn't back up? I don't know, you would think heavy haul right?, NOPE.
This week I blind sided 8axle lowboy 180deg off 2 lane street tight to a crane. Only way it got done is I made 4 of his crew spot for me. We all need help sometime.
