Regarding the question of slowing down for a while to let another truck quickly and efficiently pass....

... what exactly are you "giving up"? If you think about it, if you allow a truck to pass and you slow down to let them do so AND wait to speed up again until they are 6-8 seconds in front of you... you lost a whole... (wait for it)...

    ... 200 yards.

    That's about 1/8 mile.

If you are getting $0.40 per mile, then you just gave up ... (wait for it)...

... $0.05 !!!!! OMG! You just gave up the equivalent of a mouthful of Doritos!

Jeez, if you did that a few times a day you might actually give up the equivalent of a whole snack bag of Doritos.

    The horror!

Put it all into perspective. You aren't giving up much at all to be courteous and allow traffic to flow around you and create greater safety for everybody that is on the road with you.

Real interesting thread started by a 4 month veteran driver.
Yet windsmith has been driving 1 year and gets it.

Yes, I'm awake now. Time to get on the road and get blinded, boxed in and disrespected by all knowing students.

Until you cite this 'law', then I'm sticking to my philosophy. The overtaking vehicle is always at fault if there is a collision as a result of their decision to pass.

Let's look at the converse - why are you so hell bent on passing if your speed differential is only 1-2mph?

I got a recent speeding ticket, so i use cruise with jake enabled all the time. If i get another I'll be sol and have no career. So yes, I use the switch up and down. If i use my foot there is a good chance i'd accidentally speed if im not supper paying attention especially since my truck is pretty powerful and quiet. On a flat road, obviously its pretty easy, but in rolling hills, its easy to pass your target speed by mistake. Thats why i trust a computer to do it. Also it auto applies jake if the truck gets going 2.5 mph over target alerting me to slow it down. I obviously can be more then a steering wheel holder lol, but on the highway, most of us are wheel holders. Any idiot can drive a truck on the highway.

there's 3 right there. getting a lot of pdf results on Google, But need anymore proof? And omg, the guy who only drove a trick for 4 months, whole stop driving a cat a actually knows traffic laws? I know, I thought it would be impossible too. like basic laws aren't common knowledge to pretty much every driver on the road.

So they're you go, if I'm passing you and I beep, get out of my way.

Thats only on a 2 lane road. In that case, I;ll slow down because its a safety ishue if he doesn't get back over in time. On a highway though, I have no legal obligation to slow down. I'll move over if i can for a truck to get on. Ill flash my lights when safe to come back over, but, if he drives a slow truck, that's his problem. When i was a company driver and drive a castrated truck, I never expected anyone to slow down for me. I get the best mpg in my truck by setting the cruse and not touching it for 11 hours. Now in some cases I have to slow down, but letting a slow poke by that i will just have to pass on the next uphill is not one of them.
