You mean the Hood River Gorge, I-84, right?

If there is an I-40 closure in the western states, I would certainly like to know about it!

I haven’t been out that way except in a pickup — wife is from Asheville and we are getting loaded up to head out there for a funeral — very quick trip. Is the Gorge east or west of Asheville? Sorry, I am usually sharper than this — but you don’t know what you don’t know.

 

It's east of the gorge. It actually starts in Tennessee, and is the first 20 miles or so of NC.

 

Thanks — just looked it up on NCDOT — says it won’t open until Sat @ 4pm. We are dropping down to Wickenburg for a day, then I was going to run 40 all the way across. This changes things a little.

 

You can get around it.
Off the 40, Run 81 north to 26 south that will drop you down into Asheville. Then you can pick up the 40 again.
