    Hey Ridinwithpride,

So you grew up in Nicholasville. Well, I'm engaged to a lovely girl from the neighboring town of Wilmore. She's a sweetheart and I love her to death.

As for being a statistic - I love breaking statistics. When I was in college, I was predicted to be one of those to drop out and walk away. It took me an extra year because of my father's passing - but I got my degree. In my life, someone says you can't do something - I look and say "Watch me." and do it.

I've also worked in Customer Service for several years now (during College on breaks) and the last year as a full time job. You know how you can get angry at dispatch on the phone? Or when you call your tech support for your phone or computer and curse them out for every single problem? Or how about calling your insurance company? - Try being at the receiving end of that for 10 hours a day.

You want a job that you can absolutely despise and hate? Work a call center for a year. Let me tell you - I hated it. I hated it with a passion. But you know what? I also enjoyed many of the phone calls that I took. The experience at ANY job is what YOU make it. Sure, company policies change - and sure there are those that you just CAN'T stand to work with. It's how you respond to those changes and how you adapt to things is what makes it or breaks it for ANYONE.

So the question is: "Are you going to be a statistic?"

My answer: You can put twenty on it that I'm not. :)

Im not saying you'll fail, but have a question?, If you went to collage and got a degree, What kind of degree?, and why are you not pursuing a career in this field?

Bachelors Degree in Music and Business. I would so do something within my field - if there was anyone hiring in it right now. The Music field is at an almost stand still with employment. The Business part of my degree - that's the part that kills me. I have the degree, but no one will let me use it. In 3 months after graduating last year, I applied to over 300 different companies within the Cincinnati, Louisville, Lexington, Nashville, and Knoxville area. I only got a handful of actual interviews.

    Why?

Because I don't have the work experience like they wanted. And now, even for a lot of the 'entry level' within Marketing and or Administration Support, you got to have a Masters Degree.

So - here is how it stands. Yes I went to college and I got a double degree. The way it is right now within our economy, the Bachelors Degree is nothing but another High School Diploma in their eyes. I honestly don't have the money to go back to school right now for my masters.

Also - let me rant about Masters Degrees for a moment. You know what also sucks? A lot of schools will not admit you into their Masters of Business Administration or Graduate Business school programs unless, you guessed it, you have professional work experience. There are schools out there that require up to 5 years in many cases.

(And before anyone suggests it - NO - I am not doing online programs from those online schools.)

Anyhow - that's enough of my anger toward the business and education world right now. Back to the subject matter. I know there are those who are skeptical about new drivers. They're a dime a dozen now. The big companies advertise that new drivers can make more money than their current dead-end job and it draws them right in. They get through the CDL training - drive for a little while, get angry and quit.

I sincerely don't plan on being like them. The only way I can prove it, however, is just that - go out and do it. I'll see you all on the open road soon enough and I'll make sure to give a friendly wave! :)

Well, the flake-out rate in this industry is pretty high; that's why everyone was betting the way they did. If you started your school with a class of, say, 20 students, it's highly likely that maybe two of you will still be in the industry (let alone driving for the same company you started with) at the 1-year mark. I've always theorized that a lot of people come into the industry with some preconceived notions at the start, only to become seriously disillusioned when the "ugly truth" rears its head. Or, maybe, it could be that the learning curve in trucking is a little steeper than most folks would ever guess (seems as if every other day I'm still learning just how much I don't know).

I think it really helps to do the research and (at least) get an idea of what you're getting yourself into. That's what I did and, strangely enough, I'm still here almost 2 years later. Must be something wrong with me, LOL!

true 3 yrs ago there were 6 of us in my cdl class. 6 months later 2 of us were still rolling. last yr I heard the other guy was still driving but had went through 3-4 companies. Right now im unemployed too having an issue with previous companies i drove for and a laps in driving time. I hate it the same reason you do, yeah its nice to have to pay bills but i feel like a dead beat bum. the ppl at the unemployment office once said so much to me because im young. i told em to find me a job and id take if! lol well im still looking so you know how that went. but if you can get all the endourcments you can, it wont hurt.

    Hey folks,

Well - the making it to the CDL training has come to a stop for the moment. Messed up my shoulder last week falling down a flight of stairs. I won't be able to drive a truck until probably the first of the year. Kinda sucks.

On the upside - I am working a job here in my area for the time being that will suffice to say for a while. I'll be a temp supervisor for a call center project for a while until the beginning of the year. It'll give me a chance to save some money and then pay my own way to trucking school and then choose a company to work for.

I'll still be on the forums -I'm not going anywhere. I'm just going to take the time now, shift down a gear or two and really dig into the industry before making that leap. Anyhow - catch ya on the flipside.
