the owners of this fourm have created a free gps app for trucks. Would suggest an inexpensive tablet with an aircard or internet service..... its called hammer and as was mentioned above, the large print ,spiral bound, laminated atlas is a must have.....
And how do you use that while driving??? Ya see, that's the catch with the online crap, you have to take your EYEBALLS off the road...
so you dont do mirror checks? check speed, air and the like? all those take your eyes off the road. there are about 6 different voices to choose from I think... does listening take your eyes from the road?
Sorry I couldn't resist...ha. I'm not too sure the Kraco cb's worked about as good as the rest of the cb radios back in the 70's. I sure don't remember hearing anyone saying they had to take their new radio to a tech and have it tuned up. Ah, the good old days. Hey here's a nice new one someone should buy. VINTAGE KRACO, CB RADIO 40 CHANNEL, MODEL KCB-4007, NEW IN BOX 33299751308 | eBay Not too bad looking. Just ignore the slide volume and squelch. Nothing that a little Deoxit spray can't handle.
Well maybe company can loan ya a few buck to get up n running.. Seeing $ is tight then get what you "need" 1st.... Work clothes n boots, any safty gear(vest, hard hat n glasses..)A good up to date atlas that laminated and sprial binded.. If you have it already and still got coin, dont buy other peoples junk like cb and antenna cause its likely been beat, over worked ect ect... If you have the desire for a gps, dont cheap out and buy a car version(new or used)cause they will get you into spots your ot supposed to be....I suggest the garmin desil 7" or the rand mcnally tablet and they are not cheap but by far better than a car version.. Save any recipts for work related cause you might be able to claim some or all on your next years taxes..
Not terribly hard up for cash since we have hubby's income, but I definitely don't want to have to make multiple purchases to get something that works either... I will definitely invest in a good atlas and will have an unlimited plan on my current phone that has hotspot capabilities so I can check out the Hammer app that was mentioned for my tablet (or phone) and save up for a while for a dedicated diezl (spelling) or rand gps... I will keep my eyes open for sales in the near future and set some alerts to let me know if any of the recommended CBs go on sale before I graduate. Once I figure out where I will be and what truck I will have, I will definitely stop back by for advice on a proper antenna for best signal. Thanks everyone for the advice. If you have anymore, keep it coming.
