    That's right - I'm almost 100% sure they don't.

This. I have rooted all three android phones I have had, and I pay zero extra for a Wi-Fi hotspot.

BTW, I have a no contract virgin mobile phone. $45+tax a month gives me 1200 minutes, unlimited text and unlimited data. They say they willthrottle you after you pass 3gig of data, but in four years I have never noticed a slowdown, even after they send me a message saying I'm over the limit.

Why pay twice for data? Just root your phone. It's easy to do yourself. And screw contracts. This is probably the only country inn the planet that lets the phone companies screw you with a contract.

So to sum it up. Go to verizon and pick out a Android phone and then get it "rooted" and I should be set with unlimited wi-fi, am I correct?

    They don't anymore.

If you had Unlimited before it got dropped, you were able to keep it.

By the way the reason Android phones can be rooted in the first place, is because unlike Apple's iPhone, Android phones run on open source software.

...and I did! If I'm not mistaken they dropped it less than a year after I got my first smartphone in January 2011.

I have Verizon, and an Android phone, my "hotspot" doesn't cost me anything, and my phone is not rooted.

No, you can't go to Verizon because they do not offer unlimited data anymore. The only reason I have Verizon unlimited data is because I signed up for it before they dropped it.

What you must do is first locate an unlimited data plan with some provider. Sprint might work. Years ago I used one of their unlimited laptop cards for $60/month and it worked pretty well. I could watch video and everything.

Once you find a provider with an unlimited data plan, then make sure you get an Android phone for the plan. I'm sorry I can't help much with the provider part, but I can assure you, you'll want to get an Android phone.
