Try shifting a little different. Try to get in the highest gear as quick as possible. I don't mean to race the engine what I mean is to shift at a low RPM then shift as soon as you can to the next gear. Years ago it was called progressive shifting and you can still use it today. Stay away from the governor because it's wasted power. I could shift as low as 1150 with a standard 10 speed and then increase the RPM's by around 50 for each shift. Be sure to fill the fuel tank all the way up. Keep your idle to a minimum and your speed just below the governed speed.

Wouldn't it be more beneficial to run around on half tanks or less? 100 gallons is about 700 pounds = about half a tank on mine. Full up with daily 500 miles range solo is lugging about 700 pounds extra per day I don't need to and therefore costing MPG's in my opinion.

thats also wasteing 15 minutes of your 70 everytime you stop to fuel. Every minute you waste cost you on pay day, especialy for you a L/O you need to use your hours even more wisely then a company driver as you only have so much control over your income/exspenses......just my .02cents

There was an article in the "Truckers News" magazine awhile back that made a reference to a Kenworth research paper. Basically, in gears 1 through 5, start your upshift at 1,100 to 1,200 rpm. When you are in the higher gears, start your upshift below 1,500 rpm.
    .
Kenworth found that at 1,500 rpm and above, the motor really uses significantly more fuel.

Ah, reading those truckstop magazines can provide some good information once in a great while.

Put $50.00 bucks in fuel in your truck, using you're own money. The company won't know what happened!

I heard this was a trick used in the olden days so some Schneider drivers would get a fuel bonus.....

Or you can just fuel in the morning when you are on line 1 for your morning pre-trip and thus don't "waste" any extra time. Of course if you are on electronic logs you just log it as you do it and you can fuel and only use about 5 min or so to do it.

No, not all Swifties are that bad. Everyone in the industry has to "be better" than somebody and they're the biggest outfit:biggrin_25525:.

In all seriousness, most Swifty bashing is good natured "teasing the younger brother" attitude. Swift gets a bad name because they are huge and hire newbees. Newbees screw up, it's the nature of being new. We were all new once (I still consider my self "new") and had our share of screwups.:biggrin_2555:

Except Redd. He was hatched in the drivers seat.... hehe.

How much a week $250.00 in your own money? Must be some heavty bonuses.
He is hauling reefer. Much better to skim a bit of reefer fuel during each fuel up. Just set the nozzel down and back up drop in a few extra gallons, just keep it small 5-10 gallons at the most. Any more and the company will find out.

Put in the clutch when going downhill, you will really fly then and it wont show up on your sensor tracks eather, thats how swift drivers do it.

Tailgating another trucks the whole time you drive will really bring up your MPG. Tailgating another truck and convincing another truck to taigate you, if you do it long enough will probley put you in the 8 MPG range.

You fill up a whole set of tanks on your dollar, then dont turn in your trippacks till the next week, for the next couple weeks you will probley show around 10+ MPG.

Pay a back yard mechanic to run a propane line for you. Propane oxidizes diesel. From what I have heard when tuned right the propane will burn 100% of all diesel, runs cooler. Cooler intake and block means cooler air much bigger boost to your turbos. Lot more power for same amount of fuel. Less throttle higher MPG. They are making the cones for the backs of trailers sposed to help increase MPG, trailer skirts also help MPG.

crengland having bs contest to see who can get best GPM came up today on qcom. A stupid prize which will go to one of the dm or secretaries husband/wife drivers who gets in the top ten percent on there GPM something like that.
