Last September, while getting my 200 BTW hours with my "mentor", Schwift paid me $15/hr.

Then I "upgraded" to solo driver and took a serious pay cut.

Thats because they were paying a weekly salary that did not equel minimum wage for the hrs they were logging. Gordon Trucking got slapped around for the same practice.
When May first started training they were paying 30 cents a mile Then they got greedy & had some financial issues.. That case & the ones out of Ca & Wa were state cases & not federal.
Now Companies on left coast are just converting part of your milage rate to hrly pay to comply with state laws.

Werner is NOT a starter company, it's just a greedy company, like the others that results in high turnover. I know drivers that have been with Werner for 30, 20, 10 years. I myself was there for 8 yrs, why? cause I found a division and dispatcher that I was comfortable with. Oh, I didn't make any money to live on, you'll starve working for Werner, they pay slave wages. Example: I am single, no family or kids, no house or rent to pay. I lived out of the trucks for 8 yrs and when I left I was basically broke. So if you have a family or major bills to pay don't work for Werner. Drivers who stay with Werner have some other type $$ compensation, retirement, military paycheck, inheritance, etc... I've been through CR England, Swift, MS Carriers, Central Oregon Trucking, Stevenson, they are all the same except little differences. Bottom line, none of these companies pay a living wage. Werner for me was the best of the worst. Now there are companies that pay $80K to $120k and thats what I am looking for now.
I have my Hazmat, TWIC card and passport plus a spotless driving record. So if anyone knows of or works for a decent trucking company that pays good I would greatly appreciate your advice.

Don't know where you call home. But my son works for Andrews Logistics . main terminal in Texas. They have other terminals he works out of Neville Is. Pa. They are tank and haul oil products. He does 80k or close every year. Home weekends. Why did you stay at werner so long? I realize you seem to live cheap but bank extra $.

How long did you work for Central Oregon Trucking? I find it hard to believe that you're putting them in the same category as Werner.
I know several people who work for Central Oregon and they all seem to do pretty well there. You do have to be willing to work but the guys all say that if you put out the effort they'll treat you right.
So, which is it? Are you lazy and won't run or are you just a poor money manager?
Eight years with Werner, none of the usual living expenses and you left broke?
C'mon man, there's more to this story than you're telling.

Central Oregon doesn't pay very well for a road warrior company that hates to let drivers go home. They were paying .05 per mile less to start then many other fltbed companies in the region .36 per mile base pay & hoop jumping for the rest, speed readers, cameras , & lots of micromanagement.
I guess if you care about office staff giving you fake smiles & even faker respect & like driving nutted stripped down fleet KW's with no APU's & lots of chaining? Then this in the sticks of central Oregon company is for you.
I have talked to their drivers also, they say that hard work is not the only requirement. Having no life is another. Work life balance is terrible.

Having done a wee bit of flatbed, I wouldn’t look at a tarp for .36 cpm.

Name these so called small companies that
    Hire rookies and train them.
You made a lot of claims with no proof
of anything. You just threw out a bunch of numbers.

It's crazy how ones experience can differ so greatly. I started with Werner and they treated me well. Got good miles and was home every other day. Can't complain but then again, I was on a dedicated tire account. Werner bought my "dream car" at the time. Still have it.
