The only thing I can imagine that is non-cosmetic is that larger pipes might reduce the frequency of the exhaust noise and/or overall loudness of exhaust. Lower frequency noises are less likely to bother people, as would less overall volume. But that's so minor a concern in most scenarios that you can probably ignore it.
Yeah it’s lower....until the jakes come on. I don’t mind hearing a few loud jakes during the day or highway but when I’m sleeping at the truck stop they are downright obnoxious.
The less back pressure a diesel has the better, zero is better, a vacumn on the exhaust would be best. lol All different froma gas engine.
All about the attention! When you’re screaming up that left lane people hear you coming. Then you can throw the jakes at 3am in the truckstop as you scrape knuckles on the ceiling while sitting on the floor.
I don't k know about size A lot of people say size doesn't matter), but the Old Skool saying is loud pipes save lives, let's em know you're comin.
I always thought that applied to bikes better. If someone can't see 80' of truck coming at them they are so out of it I don't think they are gonna hear it either.
Some states require a heat shield on the pipe. Pa is one. Looked at a couple heat shields, just slightly larger than the pipes. Installed right where your body or arm would brush against it. They sell'em in those chrome stores and catalogs.
Old-school if it’s too loud you’re too old !! Had a small cam 290 years ago with straight fives when you’d hit the Jakes it would almost crack glass !!!
