Well, got the ankle preaty much healed up, back on full duty again. At least they kept me workin' while it healed. Did a transfer to Florida to one of our centers, then ran a tean route to CA and did a recovery of a truck and trailer for our Ft. Worth center. PPicked up a backhaul then brought it back solo. Now im back on my regular route, freezin' my tail off in Nebraska, lol. FL & CA are'nt bad places to be in January.:biggrin_25523:

Another good thing i'd forgoten about foodservice, 90% of the time we spend the night in our customers parking lots. No more tryin' to find a hole in a truckstop in the middle of the night. At the Lonestar Steakhouse accross from the Kansas Speedway now. I must say so far it's great to be back, been runnin' 6 days a week ( my choice ), and lookin' forward to seein' a full paycheck again.:biggrin_25522::biggrin_25519:

Glad things are working out for ya brother. When I ran for Sygma I did a two trip a week single man layover. Sure I stayed in hotels, sure I was fed by Panera Bread and Wendy's stores but still........For all the cozy hotels, decent paychecks and okay food, I'd never go back. I'm quite happy with my no touch freight, home every night, five day work week local job. Nothing beats sleeping in your own home every single night.

Is this similar to the likes of McLane (Foodservice Carrier). I see them go in to Taco Bell across the street (day cab) and then at the gas station I see a sleeper truck. Spoke with one a the recruters a long time ago about 2007-8 and he said the pay was a mix of Mileage/Hourly/Cases and at the time drivers outta the Portland Terminal were averaging $27/hr. But, he didn't lie about the turnover rate and the physicality of the job. According to him, only 3 drivers out of the Portland terminal have been with the company more that 15 years.....

Similar yes, but not quite the same. We don't do convience sore's/ gas stations. Only resturants, yes the work is physically demanding. But compared to other foodservice companies ( even other MBM'S for that matter ), we don't have it too bad at our center. Our main customers Golden Corral and Sirloin Stockade, we dont wheel the product in. We break down pallets in the trailer and the customer takes it off and wheels it in. We've only got a couple steakhouse chains that we do wheel-in's at and their usually small stops. Now that said it is still very physical work and you earn every penny, but all in all it ain't a bad gig.

McLane daycab=One man in a truck delivering to chain accounts.

McLane sleeper=Team route. Delivers to convience stores.
Around here 7-11 and easy trips are their big customers with the sleepers and KFC/Taco Bell is the big ones for the daycabs.
