You should forward this new information to that police officer and ask him to review the tape again. Maybe they can get a clearer image of the plate.

We keep a supply of windshields for most trucks. Didn't have one for my international because we are phasing them out. That's how I got my Volvo. I didn't have 4 hours to wait. I had A few stars, but just as I was getting off the exit, a dump truck switched lanes and threw a rock up. Pretty good sized ding. DOT would not have let it go.

 

When I first viewed the video I also found it odd that what we thought was a brick got such a good bounce. Pretty crazy that it ended up being part of a hitch that someone left on the bumper, but it makes sense though considering the hop and bounce it ended up doing. Glad you're ok and good thing you had the dash-cam. I really need to get one.

 

I think I pee'd a little just watching it... Can only imagine the adrenaline that caused for you. Glad you weren't hurt.

 

Would you be interested in sending me a copy of the video? I would run it through my software and break it down frame by frame and send it back to you, which you could re-upload as an alternate version. You would retain full copyright to your material of course.

 

Some good detective work going on in this thread! Now all we need is someone who can get a read on that plate. Maybe @scottied67 equipment can do that?

Wondering where it flew after it hit you. Maybe hit someone else? Another reason your police department may want to see what really happened.

Glad you're not hurt. Also glad to know this was accidental - not a malicious aim at you or anyone else.

 

I watched the video in HD at 1/4 speed and the brick was on his rear bumper. It was laying on the step, just left of the license plate.
