They’ve done pretty much everything except making it so trucks can’t make the left turn to go that way. There’s a federal building right on the corner so the turn off the truck route has to be truck friendly. Otherwise they could make it so guys couldn’t make the turn, then they’d just get hung up on the barricades instead of hitting the bridge.
"Gonzales says officials need to do something about the bridge that catches numerous trucks and campers every year." I agree wholeheartedly. If there are bridges that reach down and catch numerous trucks and campers every year, then yes, something must be done. Otherwise, these bridges become serial offenders and may eventually become a threat to cars.
The lights did flash, according to the first audio clip. That's the one where he blames his GPS for telling him to make a U-turn, and also the sun got in his eyes, and the lights were blinking, and then.... "Gonzales also misinterpreted a sign on the south side of the bridge pointing to a detour…" In the audio clip he says, "I, I thought it was weight, overweight ... a, and the sun, you know, the sun blind me ... so a, ah, I was not able to read instantly." Yeah, 11'-3" refers to weight.
I like the clip where he says the city needs to do something more about the bridge. As if numerous signs before the intersection telling trucks to stay on the truck route and not to take 83 through town, warning lights and a sign, and a posted detour once trucks make the corner aren’t enough. I bet if it had red lights and a warning sound like he says they need to do he would’ve still drove right into the bridge.
