It’s just the way it is. Gouge then when you can because they will gouge you when they can. Then sometimes things are balanced. I catch #### on TTR all the time for pushing for higher rates but few will listen. But, most will ##### and moan when rates go way down. It’s why we have to get all we can to make up for times like these.

Buckle up and get on with things or drop out and quit using up good diesel and air for my Cummins.

Here is an example of price gouging. In a state that says stay at home, no unnecessary travel to the average citizen. But they need us out here to feed them.

Too many trucks for too little freight.

If every load were mandated, by some law or moral code, for at least $3 dol per mile from OH to CAL, none of them would make it to the loadboard. Brokers would just call their favorite carriers. If not, trucks from as far as Chicago or Baltimore would deadhead to grab them - 15 trucks ready to get that 1 load, and there would be none left for the OP, anyways. Unless he or she were jackpot lucky to call on it first. So either you go back to CA for $1.15, deadhead, go somewhere else or sit there at that always ugly and crammed Pilot for some time.

Otherwise, if such a minimum rate law were implemented and executed on first come and first serve basis, supervised by some official commission (e.g. former ICC) determining which carrier is the next in line to be loaded, it could also take a week or more to get loaded

Supply and Demand. A lot of times Brokers are competing amongst themselves for the Freight. Lowest price, or the Broker willing to settle for the lowest commission gets the Load, then passes it on to the Carrier with the lowest rate. Supply and Demand Competition.

I can confirm that. I help my bro-in-law doing brokering bout 8 yrs ago. Shippers want the lowest price for their loads. Brokers have to under cut the megas and other brokers to get the freight/business. And FTL is easier than LTL for that. I couldn't beat any LTL rates. But on the FTL we could. Brokers are making between 150-500 per load if they're lucky. Into FL was low end and out of it high end. Why? Nothing ships out of FL. So rates were at a com to cover drivers cost out of the dead zone. Instead of deadheading

I heard a story Yesterday about a Trucking Trade Group, maybe ATA, not sure. Lobbying Govenors to open Driving Schools, claiming an impending Driver shortage. Unbelievable, they’re planning on hiring as many new lower paid Drivers as possible. Megas never miss a trick.

Yep, there’s a bunch of places that use Brokers almost exclusively. Anyone including Carriers can get set up with them, fairly easy. One that comes to mind is Heinz Ketchup loads out of Fremont Ohio.Everybody and their Brothers in there competing for the loads. A lot of Carriers/ Brokers use them as a stop gap, till their regular freight returns. Kind of like laid off Drivers in Detroit go
to work for Central Transport, till they get called back. It’s always there. Unless a worldwide pandemic hits. Lol

Who's forcing any Owner Operator to take those loads?

Guess I'm barking up the wrong tree, didn't realize there was such a love affair with these brokers...
I'll just go back in my corner and shut my mouth :)
