Wow I was closer then I thought and I just threw out a random guess.
Bakerman Thanks this. -
Used to haul spuds out of North Carolina up to Herr's Potato Chips in PA. Company used 48' spread axle reefer trailers without the reefer unit. They took that stiff board like insulation, cut into strips, and fit the strips into the grooves of the reefer floor as filler.
Loading was easy. Back up to the conveyor and ogle the pretty farm girls while the conveyor dumped spuds into the trailer. Once the trailer was full (usually overweight, but screw it. I got paid on percentage based on hundredweight), run up to PA and sleep over. Unload by backing onto the scale, watch everything get dumped out, and run back to the farm for the next day.
Easiest job I ever had.Ruthless Thanks this. -
Whenever I haul bulk floor load taters they spread a buncha sawdust on the floor first, really keeps them little taters from stickin in the floor. Not ALL of em, of course, but it works out pretty good. Then I go get a trailer washout and tip the fellas a Jackson cuz of all the headache. Tater loads pay well enough (at least in my neck of the woods) that it makes it worth the hassle. Heck I've even taken my broom handle n leaf blower n cleaned out my own box one time lol it only took bout an hour.

Yep, going to Frito in Charlotte....we used a crow bar to dig them out last time, wasn't sure if there were any tricks, just trying to make it easier on the driver. Is fascinating to see that big trailer tiled up and emptied out, though.

Wood chip trucks get the whole truck and trailer dumped at 75% of the paper mills out west here. The rest dump just the trailer.

Back to subject just have the broker pay for washout what I used to do.But also always had a good broker (yes they did exist) -
We always put a thin layer of hardwood sawdust down on the trailer floor first, this kept the ribs clean of spuds, loaded by conveyor, unloaded by bobcat loader, just swept it out when empty, never had a problem...
bzinger Thanks this.
