It was governed around 110 KPH. 60 series with a 13 and the fuel mileage was excellent when running across the midwest. I can't recall # on fuel mileage. The company was all about keeping costs down. Fuel was a biggy and there was a .04 per mile fuel bonus for drivers. Excellent maintenance as company did not want to have to farm out repairs on the road. I think their equipment is all now clipped to around 97 KPH,,,dead slow on the interstatesLast edited: Apr 30, 2017

The problem was that it was airbagged on all 4 corners so instead of just having a solid mount and bags, it was soft everywhere.

It was always the front ones that seemed to screw up.

Yup, and those are non-existent on unibilts, integrals and all other air ride cabovers.

Yeah they weren't one of Henry's better ideas.Grubby Thanks this.

It was a step in the right direction, but it was a little too much.

We drove cabovers back in the day because we had to. Most states had 55' overall length law. Some states would go after you for it,some wouldn't,but it was the law. My first truck was a 69 Transtar CO4070A. NTC 335,13 spd. Hendrickson solid suspension,148" WB. No air ride on anything, even had a mechanical spring ride seat. I'm sure there are some guys here that remember them. When you sat on it,it had a little ratcheting handle you cranked on,bounced up and down, till you got the right feel for your weight. No radials, stiff bias tires, sitting right on top of the steer axle, you got the crap beat out of you. But we all did it,and made a living, and survived.
Pic is from 1974,I think.
Toomanybikes, Oldironfan, Grubby and 5 others Thank this. -
