    Hey guys!

I just got hired on as a freight agent, and I am having trouble finding a good script for when I call shippers. Basically a good line after I introduce myself that will get their attention is what I'm looking for. O really really want to be successful at this, and eventually start my own brokerage. Would any experienced agents or even brokers be willing to give me some advice?? I'm going on week 3 and no shippers yet.

    Thank y'all!
    Amy

Do you have any previous inside sales experience? Any sales experience at all?

Perfect your 'elevator pitch.' If you do not know what that is, learn.

This might seem like a snarky comment, but it is not. Elevator pitches are absolutely critical in almost all types of sales or service environments. If you do not know what one is, you MUST educate yourself.

I didn't mean to be nasty, it's just, you're in the wrong place, dear. Truck drivers aren't sales people. That's why we're truck drivers, I couldn't sell blankets to the Eskimoes.

Since the forum says brokers and the OP wants information pertaining to the brokerage side,I think they posted in the right place.I have seen post from brokers here.So sometimes if you don’t have any knowledge of the question maybe your better off to go to a post you have knowledge about.

This is the best advice yet, the elevator speach should be no more then two sentences, example for my consulting company when I am asked in the airport what I do for a living I reply "I provide safety consultations and evaluations to trucking companies to help keep us all safe on the road" or when I am calling on a potential new client I will have looked at their SafeStat score and will say something like " Hi, this is Brian the safety guy and I want to help you with your vehicle mainteance score (or whatever the issue is)". No hard press on the first 30 seconds but they know exactly what I do and what I want to do for them.

Now, elavator speaches will not work if you can't get past the gatekeeper (receptionist) and that takes creativity sometimes. It does help to know who the decision maker is instead of wasting your time on someone with no auhority.

I feel my biggest hangup is getting to the decision maker. Gotta know who to talk to: and going in without a name makes my game a lot tougher.
