My thoughts of the Drivecam in a Crete thread, there would never be a reason the driver facing camera would help a driver. Or a company employing a driver in any situation. The Drivecam is reason for insurance to increase insurance.

You'd think that the first place they'd want cameras installed in trucks is BEHIND the trailer for the driver, like they have in all SUV's now, and one for each side when you turn on your turn signal, like they have in all the SUV's now as well. Then a forward facing camera for evidence of the idiots cutting you off if you happen to get braked on and hit them and possibly for red light camera tickets where the city sets the camera to illegally take your picture when the light is yellow.

Driver facing cameras are BS. Any driver who approves must not have ever had a micromanaging moron try to ruin their day in any other job before. Or imagine if the economy goes to hell and all of these driver camera companies decide that they have 50% too many drivers? Why fire those drivers when you can just go full 1984 on them and start sending them a message to report every time they take a hand off the steering wheel, lean over to check their gps for a truck stop/walmart, change the radio station, dig around for their headset when the cell phone rings, or aren't strictly following 600+ ft at 60mph. In fact with those cameras they'll be able to see whether or not you did a full 15-30 minute pretrip inspection as well. You also wouldn't have been late to your appointment if you didn't stop every hour or 2 at a rest stop to take a leak because you have that 64oz Dr Pepper from Pilot/FJ.

In my 11 years as a driver, I have seen multiple truck drivers on the road texting and driving, one almost hit me because he could not stay in his lane. Now, I am not all cosy with the drivercams either but we ask, what do you do to curb the distractions? Yes, 4 wheelers do the same thing but a rear end collision, or any type of collision with a car compared to a truck has a far far different end result. All you drivers saying you would clean out your truck and leave, I get that, but like another driver mentioned earlier, if you are riding down the road texting, you deserve to be fired. Like I said I am not cosy with them either, hell, I wasn't all gung ho about elogs or auto Trans but now I drive an auto shift truck with elogs and I am used to it. I drive for a good company so if they do decide to install drivercams, yeah, I would kick and scream but as a professional driver, I do what I am supposed to do on the road and conduct myself in a professional manner. So they will NEVER see me texting and driving, simply because I do not do it.
So in essence, I think, if used appropriately by management, cams may make a driver think twice before he or she makes a fatal error on the road
    Just my 2 cents....

The cams are being touted as an In Cab Coach. Sorta like a high tech backseat driver.

Even if you were driving perfectly over the weekend and come Monday morning , no events were recorded, they can remotely signal it to start saving data (because it is already recording 24/7) and uploading video back to the hive 'just to make sure it is working' but never mistake that for a live feed, afterall it takes a few minutes to upload so therefore should never be considered live.

The latest trick they are implementing is software in the cam to detect every time you yawn or squint. Once you allow a cam in your truck mark my words in a couple years they will be asking you to wear this special necklace or bracelet or even this EKG patch with a wire plugged into the ELD which will monitor your pulse and brainwaves for signs of fatigue.

What they are looking for is the type of sheep driver who will walk up voluntarily to the guillotine and stick his head through the hole and pull the rope himself to cut off his own head.
