drive how your comfortable, When me and my son run together we run about 8 or so each, we just slide on the log book if need so it looks good on the elog. It works were both wide awake not dozing when were driving, I care more about safe than legal. Its called the real world. Do not drive if your not alert. Never drive just because you have the hours, only drive if your safe to do so.

You don't want to have anything to do with the top bunk while the truck is moving. Everything is amplified up there. You will get used to sleeping in a moving truck eventually. It took me a couple of months and I still have issues after coming off home time for the first day or two.

I current partner loves to use his airhorn. So that's really the biggest thing that wakes me up during the day. Also when you fall asleep to the truck moving, you'll sleep through most road conditions, but you'll wake up when the truck stops moving. lol

Also have a system for fueling. So when the truck stops, you will wake up and maybe want to go inside the truck stop for goodies and drinks or bathroom. Have something set up so your partner knows when you are not in the truck. Otherwise he might leave without you and if you didn't take your cell phone with you, you can be there for a while.

Happened to us once - we then had a system of leaving an item on the seat to alert the other we were inside.

You’ll figure it out - main thing is compromise and team work.

She’d grab the wheel for 45 minutes if I needed a quick sleep, and vice versa.

I’d run snow and ice for her regardless. We’d make coffee for the other while rolling.

    It’s never lonely.

That's probably the best split for two drivers that don't want to drive overnight. In a perfect world one driver will prefer nights and the other days... but you know..

I did it once too. I hear it's a common rookie mistake. The item on the passenger seat works well if you two run a lot with the curtains open. My partner and I always keep the curtains closed. So for us all we need to do is leave the curtain wide open when we go inside. For me that sticks out because it's always closed when I am driving and seeing it open isn't normal.

It's amazing how quick you pick up the routine though. I am usually awake right when the engine brakes come on and the truck takes the off ramp. Some how I just know we are getting ready to swap even without checking the time. The trucks driving language tips you off to whats going on quite a bit.
