I just bought a truck in NC to deliver my own products. It's a 14,500 lb box truck. I got a DOT number. I will be doing deliveries twice a week. I will also be driving under 150 air miles. It seems to me that I could apply to be exempt from ELD but I can't figure out how to get the exemption. Anyone can shed a light? Calling, chat or email to the FMSCA has been impossible.
Can I be exempt from ELD

Call the dot or highway patrol in your state.. most officers will answer questions. Like agriculture products here are 150 mike exempt and other products such as sand was only 100 air mile exempt.

Will try Hwy Patrol. Thanks

I understand the 150 mile exemption is open to anyone. You just do it. No piece of paper or approval is required.
The DOT will use BOL's and fuel records to determine if the exemption is misused during an inspection.
I think you will need to keep a log book or daily time sheet.Rideandrepair, Cleduskenworth, Rubens and 2 others Thank this. -
As long as your home address is in your 150 mile radius your fine. I’ve ran under it for 10 years. Your are supposed to keep a timesheet of your hours ran, but you are not required to have it in the truck. It can be at home in your office.

You don’t need an exemption from the state in writing .
you’re exemption is written in the rule book
if you’re inside the air mile radius from your home terminal , you don’t need a ELD or a logbook
you are required to keep a time card but it can be kept at your terminalsinglescrewshaker, Rideandrepair and OldeSkool Thank this.
