Good point! He asked for advise. I need a lot of that my self. We are at different levels but at least he paid enough attention to catch it.

It is under the periodic inspection. 1 a. (1) covers it as stated below. If it can not pass an inspection and a driver knows it, I am pretty sure you wont win that battle with DOT. or am I wrong here? I understand there are stipulations to not be an OOS violation, but would this not be a violation under safety or inspection?
Ch. III, Subch. B, App. G Appendix G to Subchapter B of Chapter III—Minimum Periodic Inspection Standards
A vehicle does not pass an inspection if it has one of the following defects or deficiencies:
1. Brake System.
a. Service brakes. (1) Absence of braking action on any axle required to have brakes upon application of the service brakes (such as missing brakes or brake shoe(s) failing to move upon application of a wedge, S-cam, cam, or disc brake). -
First off what is your company safety policy? Sometimes better to just call road service let them make the money, if my truck. I would back brakes off , pull brake chamber pin, then tie up chamber to get off road a few short miles only. ...

I would release the brakes and fix at my earliest convenience.........call me what you will.

Thanks for the welding post! The welder jump start used to standard operating procedure around here. Discontinued with computers about 25 years ago.

If your running a bobcat or ranger machine with a DC constant voltage position put it there take your voltmeter and check voltage between the leads then set your fine tune as nessacary. My ranger is 4 on the fine tune for 12.5 volts and 9 is 25.
