If your getting breakdown pay just try to enjoy yourself. That happened to me once and I remember the time fondly... there was a mall nearby with a theater. Saw a bunch of movies, read a book, worked out, tried some new restaurants, ... Now, if the company's not paying fair breakdown pay then I'd be spending my time lining up a new job for after I get back to a terminal and can quit properly.
Can I quit while on the road?

If you name the company maybe we can help better.

I feel your pain. I've been through it myself.
Do not just walk away; they absolutely will ding you for truck abandonment.
Take the pain. Wait for it to run again; call dispatch and tell them you are quitting... what then are the requested intructions as to where they want their truck dropped off?
Just know, however, that you will then have to get yourself and your belongings home.
Might be best to request home time, then take the truck to your usual parking spot when on leave, and then quit.
By the way, do you work for CFI?Dave_in_AZ Thanks this. -
Just go home and when they call you at your next company, "when are you bringing our truck back?" 'Let me check my schedule...'

i had two 6 day layovers in the 80's, One in Sacramento, the other in Columbus Oh. Not bad, bars restaurants close by. Nice cozy comfy bed.

I hope you already have a new job. Trucking isn't like Burger King. You can run yourself out of places to work. Before you get a new job, ask them how they handle something like this, because it does happen. Layover pay or bring you another truck, etc.
cybill234, Dave_in_AZ and x1Heavy Thank this. -
Never would have made it when we started.

I quit my first company while on the road. I was in a similar situation as the OP. I called my driver manager and told her that I was quitting. She threatened all kinds of stuff on me. I didn’t care. I packed my stuff and took a greyhound bus 1200 miles home. Two weeks later I had a good job with a reputable tanker outfit. I’m making way more than I thought I would driving a truck.
My point to the OP is if you’re not happy then quit. There is always opportunity. Lately I’ve noticed that a lot of people giving advice on this site really don’t know jack ####.speedyk, DTP, Bean Jr. and 1 other person Thank this.
