Well to answer the original question .... It sounds like they can and did fire you and leave you stranded to me ! So I guess the real question is what are you going to do about it ?

Only the people that would pull Jackwagon tricks on their employees would have a problem. -
The company I work for had a driver that was fired for two accidents in two weeks the first time he "scraped" the 10" diameter 10 foot tall brightly yellow painted pole attached to a similarity constructed gate and fence with conspicuity tape applied he ripped the landing gear off the trailer along with the controls for dump gates. The second time he hit them he managed to bend the frame of a trailer, rip the landing gear off, bend one of the dump gates, rip off the controls, break two leaf springs, bend the fender ruin two tires and three wheels before he noticed he was up against it. The trailer had to be pulled off with a loader.
When his "new" employer called they asked me about his two "very minor" damage claims. I burst out laughing. $30,000 worth of damage in two weeks. Good luck with him.
And I hate when people say hitting something is a rookie mistake, the hell it was. It was an "I am to big (or to ###### lazy) of an idiot to get out and look to see what is there."skellr Thanks this. -
I drove for Martin transport. Yes. I had my second preventable in a year. First one. Was a broke headlight. Second was 2am in the morning. Drove a little over 10 hrs. Snowing . On i-80 . Backing in parking spot at pilot. I bent mirror on another truck. Martin let me go home for my days off. Dispatched me back out to sprinfield. Made delivery. Dispatched me to Kansas city. To swap at terminal there. When I arrived. They told I was fired and had to find my own way home.

The boss wasn't mad about a scrape, he was mad about being called at 0100 AM

It's an old thread, but apart from having emergency money on hand, I'd say take on whatever employment you could find in that town you're currently stranded. This is especially true for those that didn't really have much before they got into the truck and now find themselves back out in the cold.
Denny's server, cashier at the local truck-stop, milker at a dairy, cutter at the Cargill.,etc
Who knows, this could be the start of one of those "how did I end up here" stories.
