Get a 2nd ecm. Totally disconnect elog when you need to put 2nd ecm on and do your business return to same spot put original ecm on fire up elog again you have been off duty for 10 hours the delivery location used a shunt truck to move your trailer ...
same spot? hmm ...some gps units can detect 1-2 meter movements. do you know how accurate is the gps of your eld? same spot means same street, intersection, same row in the truck stop or... ?
It's not too hard to spoof electronic inputs. There's some 16 year old that's going to put a box together in a Monster fueled weekend hackathon with two buddies in Singapore and Ukraine. Best not get caught, I suppose....
In my operation the shippers are mostly less than 2 hours (includes me doing all border paperwork) and the receivers mostly have a big yard to arrive in and they give you a pager when they want you at a door. I can arrive at my appointment time, but that means I have to stay at a truck stop and fire up at 2 am to go deliver at 3 or 4 or whatever. I find it's easier for them production wise the way we are doing it now and I can go to the yard again once empty to sleep for a while to sleep if necessary. The 2x 15 minute on duty yard move/hand in paperwork in the middle of 8 or 10 hour is going to cause me to restart another break. I'm not saying it should be time that is forgotten, but arbitrarily saying my 6 or 7 hour rest before going to door counts as 2 is also ridiculous. The parking lots are large and most other drivers park nearer to the front or the check in shack. There is always plenty of room farther away. A good bet you could get the same space and put your tandems against the curb same as before you would be about as close as you could get it. I am also looking at delaying the start of my 14 hour day when I can foresee delays on the way to a customer. Nevermind pushing on when tired because my customers don't like to hear any bull #### in general.
How do you account for the random shift that all ELD's do to prevent anyone hacking in from pinpointing where you are? The sad part about this, to alleviate privacy and security concerns, the ELD's randomly shift the latitude and longitude to prevent anyone from determining where the truck is. The other problem you have is the heartbeat, or keep alive that is sent form the QC to the cloud system, it won't be reporting and will be alerting there was no signal received. Then you also have the eventual pairing of the ELD location, and them taking when you crossed scales. It will be hard to explain how the truck was seen passing a scale when the electronic signature and picture they took of it show differently. I am thinking about a bulk order of black plastic boxes with some cables coming out of them and some DIP switches, stand at the island and sell them for $100 a piece. I wonder how many I will sell in a few hours. Most won't pass through the island for weeks or months, especially OTR guys.
What do you mean ELD shift? The gps on the eld is a reciever. It reads signals beamed down from satellite, notes how long it takes and calculates long and lat based on math. There is no sending of gps signal from the eld.
I am not looking to break the rules right off. I would much prefer a system like they use on the west coast. Take picture at every scale (open or closed) compare against what I have written down. This to the minute leaves a lot of interpretation room for how one enforcement officer will view going over by a few minutes when the next one will see it as unavoidable. If I learn a lesson of going over a bit here and there is punishable the same as going way over. Then if I am over by a bit I might as well be over by a lot. Maybe I might as well carry on driving until close to midnight when I was supposed to quit at 4pm. Pray to God for no inspection in next 8 days. Some guys will think this way.
If you read the ELD Spec's, once your home address is entered, the ELD will never show you at home to the system, there is a built in shift of 10 miles. Same for shutting down, after a certain amount of time (Which I will not reveal), and you are taking your break, the ELD must show you at least 1 mile from your true location. The shifts are changed so no one can figure out where you live, or where you are shut down. This is part of the FMCSA specification that all ELD Systems must meet, and were added due to provacy and security concerns. Your company can find your exact location, they have the ability to go online and the ELD Systems Manufacturer will be able to show them without an offset, the manufacturer knows what it is when they view it.
Oh, you are talking about GPS accuracy. Yea it switched from whatever is mandated while on-duty to 10 miles off duty. I really don't know how that works though Here is the FAQ. What is the level of precision for commercial motor vehicle (CMV) location information recorded by an electronic logging device (ELD)? During on-duty driving periods, the location accuracy is approximately within a 1-mile radius. When a driver operates a CMV for personal use, the position reporting accuracy would be approximately within a 10-mile radius. I also found this for the guys saying it will track by GPS... Will GPS-derived data for mileage be allowed as a substitute for data that cannot be readily obtained from a vehicle electronic control module (ECM)? No, the ELD must be able to monitor engine operation to automatically capture required data. A GPS is not integrally synchronized with a vehicle’s engine, and cannot be a substitute for required ECM data to comply with the ELD rule.
Personally, since our loads pay well, and since I have adapted to the e log; I kinda hope a bunch of good drivers get pissed off and quit. Furthermore I hope the mega's hire even more half wits that cannot fuel the truck without crashing into something to attempt to fill the gap. Because it's gonna mean........ Mo Money, Mo Money, Mo Money, for the real drivers that can deal with e log. Couple that with the dudes that won't go into California........... Mo Money, Mo Money, Mo Money.
