You are not the one paying so you have no say in how it gets fixed, right?

What if the driver has no clue what you can do?

That's right, but I can point out that the owner is a POS for not getting it fixed and making the driver go w/o fixing it.

Sure, but when was the last time you called your boss a POS to his face and not got fired? Really you are being a little hard on the man that signs his check. I imagine you hurt feelings are due to working for a lousy company at one point and they treated you like seat meat. LOL

For me, I was fortunate, the company I drove for routed me into the shop and changed my compressor in two hours and I was back on the road with ice-cold air blowing after two days if sweating it. If I went to the Dealer, I would have to wait three days. Stay in bug infested motel and beg for a ride to get food. Take it as it comes and as they say, turn lemons into lemonade.

    Be Cool and stay Safe!

    Yes - we've gotten soft.

We ran CA - KS without AC, once - and not again. Running team. Just couldn't sleep 105 outside, 115 in the truck.

In that situation, I viewed it as dangerous. Don't need any more exhausted drivers out here.

Solo, as long as you could get AC at night - not so bad I guess.

How about you try it yourself, instead of patting yourself on the back over what someone else did, the same way sports fan and military spouses do? The 50s are long past. Get over it.

    Thanks but no thanks......

I am half the man of my father when I see him from afar ( we can be heroes, if for one day ).

Out of respect for his accomplishments, I dare compare myself to the man he was, a little humility here. Now that he is gone ( RIP ) and I have only the better memories left behind to remind my friends of the hard working kind of guy he was that put his family first ( five kids and stay at home wife).

Being a 50's kid, I remember riding on the jump-seat of a Mack Truck, windows rolled down and we didn't even care to say how hot it was...and those were "the good old days" when we didn't have the Color TV and Air-Conditioning, we had each other!

Fair enough. And forgive me… I thought you were one of those kicks of, "well, it was done this way before, and should remain unchanged" (and I know you've seen those on here before), that get posted when someone who has a truck with working AC goes off on someone who expressed their being less than thrilled about their AC not working.

There is no need to modify any wiring, or do any fancy tricks on the control panel. Under the dash, near the key, there is a fuse holder with a 1 amp fuse in it. Remove it and the APU will run at the same time as the truck.

I do this all the time in really hot areas just for the extra air conditioning capacity.

And to clear up any myths... no, it will not damage the cooling system... nor will it damage your batteries... nor will it cause your alternator to go bad.

Volts are volts are volts... it doesn't matter whether it comes from a battery or an alternator, each component cannot tell the difference where the voltage is coming from. The voltage regulator on either alternator will not let the voltage go above 14 volts.

I was not aware of this, I was thinking the amperage would overload the wiring, blow a fuse or even possibly kill the batteries. But then I have never needed to run my APU while driving. It's good to know it can be done.

    Thanks, @DustyRoad
