That's probably the best comparison I've heard

Good thread, OP. I am learning. Dry bulk is my boogeyman.

I hate it lol I pull liquid tank 90% of the time and when I have to haul dry bulk or flatbed it reminds me of why I started chewing snuff

Ive posted a simple process sometime ago for Heavy's Bulk school similar to my famous coffee school. I'll have to find it.

However I agree with the funnel scenario vs rocks in it. that really clears up so much.

I'll stick to powder. Its what I do best.

I admit, I'm kind of at a loss a bit on this one. About the only other thing I could think of is the blower speed.

The first tank outfit I worked at was like the training company in our area. You would go there to learn, then move on to greener pastures.

They taught us to run the blower at 1200 rpms, no matter what. But, after I learned it a bit, I figured out the blower speed makes a big difference.

One place we went, it was a two hour unload. Until I bumped the blower speed up a bit. I shaved twenty minutes off the unload simply by increasing the rpms.

If you're doing dry bulk you're always learning. I've been doing it off and on for over thirty years and I still get challenged every once in awhile.

Powder is very nice. I haul soda ash now and then and it's a 45 minute unload with no issues at all

I love it for the most part. Been doing it 10 years and counting. As I type this, I'm sitting in my recliner. Been at home, laid off for two weeks, due to lack of work. We have year round work, but have some people that cannot take a layoff over winter.

So here I sit, collecting unemployment. Kinda like paid vacation.
