Enough wrongful death lawsuits against these companies over this issue will probably lead to a "driver paid" fuel system industry wide - like many expediter outfits.
I just wonder the numbers available on CO poisoning due to poorly maintained truck exhausts?

Houseboats have more insulation than a truck does. They also have a better battery system for holding charges. Weight is the issue on the trucks. Companies run them at the leanest weight.ronin, Mrs T and truckerdave1970 Thank this.

Three weeks ago while in Mississippi I shut the truck off for the night, opened the vents on the bunk, crawled in bed and went to sleep. I woke up about half way through my break with a horrible headache and the smell of exhaust. From what? An enclosed car hauler had backed in next to me and the outlet from his grass burner exhaust was lined up almost directly with my vent. The fumes were coming out of his exhaust, up between our trucks and right in my bunk. I think I dodged a bullet that night.
zentrucking and ronin Thank this. -
Yeah, I think so too. That is something that I've had happen, though not quite as bad. I realized before I went to sleep that exhaust was coming in, and moved my truck. But once you are asleep, and someone pulls in next to you. . .
Glad you made it out OK.ronin Thanks this. -
Yep, you did. And carbon monoxide headaches are absolutely horrendous. Been there, done that.
But thats just the thing, too what happened to you was something that you could not avoid. Its not like you fired up a propane heater in a small enclosed place.ronin Thanks this. -
Desperate people do desperate things.
A dirt nap is an awfully steep price to pay for trying to stay warm.ronin Thanks this. -
Your little green book reads that portable heaters in the sleeper are a no-no.

I'd be finding that sensor in summer and harmlessly be hanging a 100 Ohm 5 watt resistor under it, connecting the resistor to 12V (draw is 1/8 amp). Help the sensor to see things my way by warming it up just a little bit. no harm, no evidence, no telltales. Just plug it in the cigar lighter..
'been doing this in hotel rooms for years, where the cheap-a55 place has the wall-mounted room thermostat set to not go below 73-75 (and some t-stats lie to you about the temp as well). In that case it's a 120V cord with a 4000 Ohm 5 Watt resistor. It hangs under the t-stat with a string and the heat rises into the unit. Just enough heat to raise the thermostat's temp 5-6 degrees. Keep it in the laptop bag! Happens a lot in states where 'green' crapola is pushed too much. California can be very annoying.
Maybe not a good idea but it works, use at own risk if at all.ronin Thanks this. -
Well, here's one driver who #### near died due to CO poisoning from the emissions system.
Yep, the Regen unit was malfunctioning and pumping pure CO into the cabin. In 15 years of driving all sorts of run-down junk, I never came as close to death as I did from supposedly "safe" and "updated" equipment.
But it's all for the best. If we didn't have these newfangled devices, the seas would rise and all the polar bears would die. And it would get a degree hotter in the summer. I'm totally willing to give my life so that some Prius driver can feel all warm and fuzzy.
