No really though. Owner operators here struggling for loads. They're getting junk off load boards by part time teenagers man. Most are struggling. Experts tell them the rate should be this and that, but fail to elaborate on how to get that certain rate. Then you companies. I am not talking about mega carriers like Jb hunt, but I am talking about small time companies with 50-100 units. These cats are giving 1.50to 1.80 CPM all California freight. I work for one and I been getting 1.80 CPM. I worked all year and still doing it. They have enough miles man. However, the only problem is though that my truck is a brand spanking new machines with a high dose of payment. My peers on the other hand, have 20k 10k 40k trucks with little baby payments.

Cargill is a solid carrier but definitely not a fit for all (what carrier is?). Best opportunities for solos are on dedicated lanes out of the Omaha/Schuyler, Nebraska area going either to Waterloo, IA or to Port of Oakland. On runs to Port of Oakland, can live in Omaha area, north Denver area, SLC or Bay area in CA. Also can be a good for solos throughout most of the Midwest. Might not be the place for someone who is really laid-back and on non-dedicated runs, need to stay out for a couple weeks at a time. Some team runs based out of southeast IA, MO, KS, NE and northern CA.

We hauled a lot for them out of a couple pork plants with our own authority. For a massive company they paid very well and treated us very good. Unfortunately they sold a few plants to JBS but we just got in with them and things seem to be going well.
Cargill had other stuff like salt but it was too cheap. Overall they were one of our best customers but like I said JBS doesn't seem so bad and are treating us fine.Joe Dan Thanks this. -
What I know. Never, ever pickup a load from them out of Shuyler NE. Over 24 hours waiting for them to load me (you drop trailer and leave, although nowhere near civilization anyway). Then you go back, search 30 minutes for your trailer, which has veen spotted by a yard goat so tight you can't even get to the landing gear. Then they insist you still make all FOUR morning appts in Las Vegas, now less than 2 days time to get there. That's what I know.
