Almost sounds like Bruces in Bakersfield back in the 70’s and 80’s!

Was not a grand place to begin with, then after the rebuild it was mediocre at best. Now that it is a Petro, it has really gone down. The thing is, the location has never been great, now it’s just something to pass by as you motor down the road.

    Slowmover1 Thanks this.

Don't knock any place that has parking spots. Everyone complains about the lack of parking, then complains about the place offering parking.

It really is. A now gone guy by the name of Carl Cornelius, good friend of Willie Nelson, founded the town of Carl’s Corner for the sole purpose of selling beer in a dry county. The truck stop was added on to the beer store, gradually.

I remember the original truck stop vaguely. Stopped there a few times as a kid long before I ever thought I’d drive trucks. It was the dirtiest nastiest hole I’d ever been to yet I was oddly fascinated by the place. They don’t make them like that anymore. The only surviving dive stops anymore are Indian owned and that’s just a whole ‘nother kind of dirty.

After Willie rebuilt the place after the fire, it re-opened in 2008 with a pretty good restaurant and also had a 750 seat theater for live music shows. With a bar and dance floor. Closed in 2011 after bankruptcy and Petro came in a tore all of the theater and bar out.
Also there was a biodiesel processing plant that turned out 2,000,000 gallons a year.

Now Dunkin Donuts charges $3.50 for a cup of coffee.
I like the Road Ranger 30 miles south with Dickies BBQ or the Flying Hook in Waco is walking distance to Hooters.
When I spend $3.50 on a drink it’s cold and beer.

Dale thompson and Intothesunset Thank this.

Well now I know the history of Carls Corner, lol.

That T/A is decent, almost stopped there yesterday evening, but like Army said, there's a Road Ranger that is really nice in Waco.

The only time I was there at the original place, it may have been pretty new, but at least the down stairs was pretty nice and clean, in fact cleaner than most truck stops.

    Intothesunset Thanks this.

I stopped at Carl's corner between 2008-2011 a few times, it seemed pretty nice. The food was good. I was there one night Willie was playing but I did not have $30 or $40 to watch. There was also a bunch of old Willie memorabilia owned by Willie.
