Speaking about this carrier - this is our first move together so there hasn't been much time to really build a relationship yet. I can tell you, while we were in the process of booking this trailer, they kept asking me for more time (they wanted the trailer for 10 days) and I asked my customer and she said no, 7 days max. So I told them if they could get it delivered no later than 7 days then we could book it. I spoke to the dispatcher and the driver about this and they both agreed to deliver by the 23rd (today). At no time was I mean, rude or unprofessional. And they weren't either, to be fair. But when I asked for an update yesterday, it was like we hadn't had that conversation - they said they didn't understand why they couldn't deliver it within 10 days after they weren't allowed to deliver when the receiver was closed. I mean, at what point would you say this is the carrier's issue and not the broker's?Numb Thanks this.

That would be great...but easier said than done unfortunatelyJames j Thanks this.

1200$ for 1300 miles is what .92/mile.
late.
I’m at $1325 for 218 loaded miles.
But i’ll be there on time, 50,000 lb load
Im back to 1 truck 3 trailers, But if doesn’t pay me enough for time away from family and pay bills, i’m not doing it.
I realize that was a power only move, where they could use it, but to me the trailer would’ve been the “load” and it’d had to pay worthwhile, but it’d been there at lot less than 7 days if they’d wanted it.
.92/mile i wont leave the house.
Just saying.Last edited: Jul 23, 2024
JolliRoger, Ruthless and Siinman Thank this. -
Well it sounds like you have a loaded trailer and/or some kind of straight drop and hook load. This is not that - they booked an empty trailer that they could use to put loads in (where they'd make a bit more than the $1200 I'm paying them). Most load outs you would see on the board (if the broker even posted a rate) are very likely going to be a couple hundreds bucks. This pays so well as a load out because it's going to Laredo and it's hard to get out of there as a power only.

Ahh, gotcha. I thought you were brokering freight. Changes my attitude. So now:
Those dogs! How dare they purposely miss the delivery appointment! Harrumph!
Sadly, put them in your do not use book and go on.kgray520 Thanks this. -
hard to get out of laredo, with anything.kgray520 Thanks this.

Unfortunately, I most likely will
I don't like to but we seem to have gotten off on the wrong foot and I don't know if I could trust them again. And thank you for your comment - I appreciate it. I promise I came in peace!

I understand what you're saying. 92 cents/mile isn't much if that were your entire earnings. But with the pay you would get from the load(s) you used the trailer for, it could be multiple dollars per mile, depending on what you get.

By offering that as a load out, you and the customer are taking a gamble in order to save a few bucks. The carrier is absolutely wrong, but it's not like you shouldn't expect it to happen. Unless you're booking the load to get put on that trailer, it doesn't really matter that the carrier could possibly get some freight at a maybe decent rate to land them in a place where they likely won't be able to get a load out of. I'm constantly seeing emails of carriers getting blacklisted by the local Utility dealer over things like this or worse. There are carriers out there who will get it done right every time, but people are unwilling to pay for it. The alternative is to get your own trucks and haul it at that rate and see how that works, otherwise just write it off as the cost of doing business and keep plugging along.
My advice is to get out of the power only segment. It is the bottom of the barrel. If your company doesn't give you a choice, then find a different brokerage to work for. Freight Tec doesn't seem like a very good company based on their carrier reviews. For all we know, the carrier probably figured they weren't getting paid anyway, so they might as well keep the trailer longer.gentleroger and Siinman Thank this.
