CDL Class A Road Test Question

At most of the larger truck stops there is a pretrip guy you can pay to do your pretrip for you while you shower and eat. Usually runs $8-$10 and they do a pretty good job! If you don't want to pay the $ to have it done for you then there is also a mirror on every last fuel island. This is known as the "pretrip island". There is also an air compressor there for changing the air in your tires and checking the pressure in your bumpers. You should do this at least once a week! Gives you that "peace of mind" feeling knowing your truck is up to par! Some truck stops have the marker light test machine too. Just pull up to it put your $.75 in the machine and if your marker lights glow orange they are working! Wish they would have one for your headlights!

 

You might want to chock the wheels to be safe.

 

Ya Gashauler, like I said, just pay the "pre-trip" guy to do all of this!

 

ask the examiner to check while you depress the pedal. hes just looking to see that you are attempting to check it.

The examiner will check them when you hit the brake pedal. At least how they did it for me.

 

Turn you flashers on and check that they are working in the back, it they are, then just assume they work or just tell D.O.T. that they were working when you did your Pre/Post check today...

 

using the hazards will tell you if the brake circuit is working due to the fact hazards/blinkers and brake lights work on the sames wiring. Then run your head lights to check the rest. That's how I've always done it.

 

The CDL Examiner will stand at the front of the vehicle while you operate the lights (markers, signals, high and lowbeams, they will then walk to the rear and then direct you to operate the lights in the rear (including brakes). They must insure the vehicle is safe / legal to take on the road for the test. If the lights do not work, the test cannot be conducted.
