The problem isn't the license. That's actually easy to get around. Just go to a state with no such restrictions.

The problem is getting hired and more importantly, the insurance company willing to insure you.

Lol.....That requirement is apparently not enforced! Half of the drivers out here barely speak english! The ATA has found a work around for that pesky citizenship thing!

(From New Zealand - 17 years ago).

No requirement in Missouri. I studied, sat and tested for a car license, then immediately began the CDL process.

Your biggest hurdle will be the green card. You could try applying for the green card lottery, unless anything has changed, trucking is a low skilled job that the labor Dept and immigration place no priority on (neither should they - we don't have a driver shortage here, it's a pay issue).

Fastest path is family based - marry a nice Southern gal. She'll need to be your sponsor, and the process is much faster.

An Aussie acquaintance got a green card based on work only - took him 8 years.

You may find some companies here still sponsoring immigrants for a EAD (Employment Authorization Document, or "Work Card" - which gets you at least a foothold to work on a 2 year green card, then 10 year green card, before a 4 year status required before "Naturalized Citizenship " - or "Non US Born Citizen".

Hang on to your hat - it's a wild expensive ride to do it legally like I did.

Or you could just wade across the Rio Grande wearing a Biden shirt and demand your rights like they do it now, suck the taxpayer dry, bring crime, drugs, trafficking and entitlement . . . and enrage people like me that respected the laws and process and gratefully took my place in one of the most opportunity rich countries on earth.

Good luck - and reach out if you get started on this process.

    Blair.

No restriction when I got mine (long time ago), the visa thing is the hold up. Be sure to enter the green card lottery. From experience, I can tell you that @blairandgretchen 's suggestion to marry a nice Southern gal works to solve the visa problem..... but it brings other problems with it. TINSTAAFL.
